80s coming of age movies just had a different feel to them. No cgi, on locations rather than just on a sound stage, narrations, just magical.
  • This has always been and still is my FAVORITE movie growing up. My great grama would babysit me & I would watch this movie prob 5 times a day when i was little. When she passed away I put this movie in with her casket as a finale goodbye. Thanks for doing this video. R.I.P River Phoenix, he was my 1st crush growing up ❤❤

This movie was an 80's nostalgic look back into the world of 1950's childhood, and now we nostalgically look back at movies from the 1980's as part of our childhood. I often wonder if 30-40 years from now, people will be looking at old YouTube videos and nostalgically remember this time.

I was 12 when I saw this in theaters back in '86.... Being the same age as the characters really made it feel more personal for me. It had a huge impact....I still love it to this day. Takes me right back to being a kid....It really is an American classic.

I loved how Boyz N Da Hood uses the Dead body concept from this movie.
  • Such a great movie. I was 13 seeing it in the theater and I'm now a few months from turning 50. Interesting to see what it all looks like now. All those memorable scenes.

  • The trains black smoke quietly rising from behind those trees while they cross the bridge was one of the most terrifying images of my childhood.

This is one of my all time favorite films!!! My Mom found it on DVD at Dollar General of all places and it became an instant favorite!!! It is sad that most of what you see in the film is no longer there. It is also sad that River Phoenix is gone. I see him being one of today's biggest name actors. Also legendary. His star faded way too soon!!!
  • It was an awesome movie. So sad that River Phoenix is not around anymore. Rip Rivers Phoenix you well always be within our heart. Your one of a kind legend.

I love films that can make you feel nostalgic for a time period you never lived through.
  • In spite of how tough they are supposed to be, boys, especially at that age are very fragile. I love this movie, because it emphasizes that fact; and also, that as time passes, the worlds in which we were raised slowly fade into memory. Beautiful evocation of emotion without excess. Plus that score. Perfect.

I was 22 years old in 1986 so I didn’t see stand by me until about ten years later with my two sons. I fell in love with that movie when viewing it with my kids. Eventually I purchased a vcr tape of that movie and broke every record of viewing a movie. This movie touched me spiritually not to sound like a kook. You guys presented this Stand By Me documentary very well! Thank you for showing and producing this. You handled this with the tenderness that this movie deserved.

This was such a great movie. It is pretty sad, but also meaningful because each of the kids has demons they wrestle with, and they are some pretty serious ones.
  • @raulduke6105
I always tell my kids that SBM is exactly how I grew up minus the dead body. We all love it. Timeless classic
  • I'm watching this again for the 3rd time, and I'm sure there will be a 4th and a 5th. I've seen filming location videos for Stand By Me before, and they are very good, but nothing compares to this. So much heart is put into this. You can just hear the excitement and passion in Michael's voice. I guess he loved this movie growing up as much as I did..
  • This was a bittersweet video for me. I love Stand By Me growing up and still love it to this day. Seeing how a lot of the places really hasn't changed much is pretty great to see.
  • @Bob-eo3gf
Classic movie, definitely in my top 10 of all time.
