These compressors can be real life savers. Your video is great very nice hack. I am thinking of doing something similar but ideally I want to convert it so it can take my 12v drill batteries and run wireless. This would mean I can use it in the shed for the bicycles or anywhere else.

Such a cute little assembly, im supprised it can pump a tire up, so diddy :-D. Like your forced air cooling, heat is death for most things :-( Imagine if it was a footpump cylinder size and driven with a 24 volt battery drill motor :)
  • @tronixfix
Lol same thing i did to mine a year ago, i also mounted it to a wooden plate together with a 12v 7.2ah lead acid battery and a switch to make it fully portable.

just found 3 or these that i have got over the years as xmas present from offspring with morals... you raise them for years and they thank you with these.... anyhow i shall take all 3, join together, add an old 1ltr fire extinguisher as a reservoir, a 90psi cut off switch, and have a mini 12v compressor for my nail gun/ratchet and blowing up my big van tyres

I got one of those from the scrap yard, it came without the plastic casing, just the bare compressor and at least it had compression. Noisy and loose. So I taken of this motor as I had a way bigger one (more torque) GMX-SPV008A without the reduction. I had to cut the aluminum frame and bolt it into the motor, also with a dremel, I cut the gear at the end of the motor to match the shape of the compressor camshaft. It is way more powerful and quiet, I also use 15W40 oil to lubricate everything on it.

These tiny 12 volt compressors are really cool. The one thing about the nylon gear (assuming it IS nylon) is that it is self lubricating to somedegree. I am afraid that adding anything but a dry lubricant will attract debris.  Moly is amazing stuff, I had some in powder form and put it into a rather loud transaxle and it quieted it down. I have modified an expired propane tank to include a pressure relief valve and use it as a reservoir for compressed air. Same can be done with disposable refrigerant tanks. Getting the old valve assembly out of the propane tank is not easy and messing about with one is, to put ones self in harms way if you do not exercise extreme caution.

I wonder if you can use an old empty CO2 fire extinguisher as a pressure vessel, that a regulator and a pressure switch and it may be handy to clean computers etc?

Lol, I bought the compressor like that to put into girlfriend's car. It was about that price, has the same shape casing, same insides, but casing is black plastic. Still works, used several times to pump tires to proper pressure. I do not like fake cooling fins design though...
  • @jcastaner
Great video! Congrats!! I have barely the same compresser and i'm trying to upgrade it to use it with an air brush. What would you do to change the hose?? Any advice?? Thanks!!!
  • @luisbravo8553
Could you please please make a video on how to modify the hose connector? I want to be able to use an air gun as you did, for cleaning. By the way, your videos are great! Thanx!
  • @Pinkorek
Wow, Thunderf00t actually used a part of that vid in his recent "self-filling water bottle" debunking video.
  • @izzydizzy1115
Great video! Can I ask what you used to modify the hose connector? Did you just cut it and use a barbed fitting and clamp?
  • @TheSpektacle
The fan is a great idea... but if you don't add one, just remember these little compressors are for intermittent use, and usually have about a 10 minute duty cycle. 10 ON, 10 OFF. I'd try a lilltle Jigaloob or WD40 ?
  • @khachaturian100
Would lithium or silicon grease have worked? Why specifically molybdenum disulfide grease? Thanks
  • Could had added a Small Tank next to the unit for better continuous volume ! Perhaps a PVC, Check valve. Aye ?

Don't let it run for too long, though. I have one of those (without gauge) that I now keep for spare parts because some of the plastic gear's teeth riped off (my guess is the piston overheated and stuck inside its housing – I had left it running for 15 to 30 minutes straight in the sun). The motor is fine, but I can't find a replacement gear and even though, I can't disassemble it. So beware. Wish I had thought of searching for vids like that beforehand... Well, hindesight, as usual, comes too late. :)
