Lithium Trolling Motor Battery Purchase & Install

Published 2024-06-10
After months of deliberation, I finally made a decision and purchased some lithium trolling motor batteries for my 36V Minn Kota Terrova trolling motor to support my guide service and my YouTube channel. I'll tell you what I bought, why I bought them, and walk you through the install including the bluetooth app to monitor them.

I appreciate you watching my free content. If you found it helpful, I'd appreciate the support by liking, subscribing, buying some merch, buying a book, or supporting on Patreon (links below). Perhaps I'll even see you on a guided trip sometime!

I’m gonna order three battery like you just to help you out my friend
  • This video was epic. It was a great review of all information and well paced. I hope these batteries work for years and years for you.
  • Bin running two 12v Powerqueen batteries for two years now. With the Noco charger. Working fine, lots of power and time on the water.

I have the same charger on my lithium set up. Love it.

Took a gamble on the Fiunie 100ah batteries with Bluetooth that you scrolled past, for $170 shipped with a coupon they seemed worth a shot. Glad I did, two months in and they are discharging properly still and charge quickly. I can go out for a day and a half straight trolling around at medium speeds, or 4-5 evenings out without charging, it’s great. Just upgraded my boat to a pro am 1750 this week and finally have room for more batteries so looking forward to adding the second one. These will be greats for the diesel heater I take ice fishing when I camp for 3-9 days on the ice at a time in MN. I run amped on my electronics though. Got the Noco genius 10 open box on eBay for $80, I hunt deals lol.

I have the Epoch 120amp cranking and three 50amp for trolling. I use the 4 bank Noco charger and the way I singled out which 50 amp battery is which, was to hook up the charger to only one battery at a time and see which one is charging on the app. BTW ...I have to use the Epoch Pro app.

Thx for the follow up on your lithium adventure. I’m still trying to decide on what battery to upgrade to for running my hummingbird graphs off of. 🤷🏻‍♂️ 12v vs 16v for better image quality? Any insight?
  • I have two of the same batteries. I love the batteries but they will not charge below freezing temps with a smart charger. The boys of Georgia had no experience fishing in cold temps. I have the same charger NOCO Gen3 X10. Watch the app when you plug in the charger....it will start up at 3 or 4 amps. The BMS will not work when its below freezing . You need a full 10 amps to turn on the heater. The warranty is pro-rated, nothing on the web-site states that. I believe 4 years is full warranty. Also Minn Kota charger will not work.

great video Brett! did you measure the trolling motor battery compartment depth by chance? I'm weighing the all-in-1 36v 100ah Epoch, but it comes in at 10.7" tall verse the 12v you chose at 9" tall. I tried to guestimate in the video, but i wonder how much extra room you have left to go higher with the 36v. It looks like maybe 3-4".
