Not The Nine O ' Clock News : Two Ronnies parody that upset Ronnie Barker. (Did the job then!).

This sketch is genius. They even have the mannerisms down perfectly: Mel arches his eyebrows like Barker, and Jones is doing the shuffling with his arms that Corbet used to do. First rate.
  • This a very skilled parody that they did in response to Barker's scoffing at the show. They not only deserved it, but he should have taken it lightly.

This is probably the funniest piss take of any one ever. It's spot on, I cry laughing every time I see this 😂

Part of me refuses to accept that I am NOT watching The Two Ronnies.

One of the funniest sketches Mel and Griff ever did. Absolutely spot-on parody. RIP Mel.

I love that Ronnie Barker was infuriated by the sketch, quote: they didn't need to be so cruel. But it did show up the real intent behind the innuendos and was brilliantly funny in the process. Corbett loved it. The 2 Rons and Mel, always missed.

Everyone remembers the Darts sketch, but this was probably my favourite NtNoCN sketch. The impersonations are spot on, and the song is genius. RIP Mel Smith.
  • I remember seeing this when originally broadcast - it was actually quite shocking to see the beloved Two Ronnies lampooned so mercilessly! My father was not impressed but I laughed and laughed - didn't stop me loving the Two Ronnies though, but it was naughty.

One of the greatest take offs of all time. I love Corbett. He was a legend. And Barker is one of the true greats. But this is sensational word play from two masters of the art. Very very clever. Just cracks me up every time. Hope Smith hugged both the boys in heaven and had a good laugh!
  • The story behind the concept and creation of this sketch is as funny as this sketch. Just legendary.

Just heard a documentary where John Lloyd said this sketch was partly in response to a published newspaper interview, where Barker moaned about the smut in Not the 9 o'clock News. So they counted the actual references to bums, tits, willies etc. in just one episode of The Two Ronnies, and there were 54 references, more than a whole series of Not the 9 o'clock News. Barker's hypocrisy spurred them on to do this sketch!

Yes, and even older performers appreciated ireverence when it was spoken. When Mark Hamill called Alec Guiness 'Sir Alec', he received a playful slap on the cheek in response, and Alec told Hamill that he wanted to be known by 'his name, not his accolades'.Howver, he loved it when Mark asked 'Okay, how about it I just call you 'Big Al?'"

This nails the Two Ronnies spot on. They used a lot of double entendres and got away with it. Ronnie C loved it
  • @kisbie
He took it personally because it was penned by one of the Two Rons' own disgruntled writers (and because it was made by the BBC). I think his reaction was motivated by fears that his career was in jeopardy. Ronnie C had a thicker skin though and now they probably all go golfing together.

The two Ronnies are still a legend. I like this comedy sketch too.

Just a fantastic puncturing parody. The Two Ronnies were superb, but it was important in the late '70s / early '80s that a new brand of humour should come along and offer an alternative to the "old school"... hopefully, there's room in the modern world for both comic visions (and many more besides).
  • Not The Nine O'clock News came along about the same time as punk and was the comedy equivalent. This sketch atacks the cosy safe crappy comedy of the day in the same way that punk attacked the cosy safe crappy music. NTNOCN paved the way for the Young Ones and Spitting Image. We really really need something similar today.

Ronnie Corbett loved this routine compared to Ronnie Barker who hated it. That tells you how good Ronnie Corbett was, he got the joke. He was also a stand up comedian unlike Barker.
