Iโ€™ll never forget the domination of the colour teal in the early 2010s

Yess a Topshop video. I've never gotten over it. Such cool, quality clothing. RIP!

20 years because that's when the children who watched adults be amazing in their eyes come of age. So y2k children are coming of age and are finally able to buy and dress just like the adults they saw when they were kids.

I feel like another big reason why 2014 and the early 2010's are coming back to style is because many people of my age (People born 200-2004) are a huge influence and due to today's stage of the world, become nostalgic and wish to go back to the early 2010's where we were young teenagers and the world just seemed to be a much better place. A perfect example being Bethany mota's old videos, the world was much more colorful, almost everyone liked the same stuff and followed the same trend, while nowadays everyone due to globalisation, likes something completly different which makes it harder to bond with people. I've been longing for the 2010 era since 2020 and it's not surprising that everyojne else is doing it now too.

I think what we forget is that when old trends resurface we take the least cringey ones and make them more aesthetic and relevant again. The worst of the cringey ugly trends of the 2010s will never come back because it was never cute in the first place

I am still sadly too traumatised from the 2010s time, maybe because I was a child and early teenager and my style was basically the worst/most basic stuff out of all of the trends at that time. (Canโ€™t believe my friends called me fashionable when I wore skinny jeans with high knee boots and an oversized T-shirt at the age of 14๐Ÿ’€) However, I do like it when people take the best things from each decade and make it trendy again!

you saying the clean girl is the 2020s version of business casual!!!! omg it just makes so much sense
  • @aila2oo2
Iโ€™m still longing for the 90s how are yโ€™all at 2014 already lol

As much as I'd love that because my tumblr soft grunge inner-self would be ecstatic, don't you feel that we will be going through a more specifically late 2000s revival in the mainstream first? Like I see so many people bringing back very classic mid/late 2000s mall emo on TikTok for example, or hints of what the internet has called twee. I know it has a lot of ties to the early 2010s but there's still a difference between the two.

not me thinking all my fashion choices were completely โœจunique โœจand trend-setting at the time and to now hear Lewys basically describe each era of my teens
  • @annabelle2538
Loving these deep dives Lewys!!! They must take a while to prep for / edit so thanks for your service at all xx

This was honestly the best time to be in middle school such simple fun timesโ€ฆ.. I also think now that people are allowed to wear whatever they want and mix styles, which creates so many different trends that it makes it difficult for people to pick one thing to focus on.. also a saturated market of things available makes trends change.

Dude I love 2014. Just an amazing year that was. It also had really fun movies.
  • @SupaDupa97
It's weird seeing a retrospective of the year 2014. I was 17 and it feels like it was only yesterday ๐Ÿ˜…
  • The way it felt like you had stolen my memory card from my blackberry during the swag era pic montage.
  • @asenetaoliver
I just remember discovering Melanie Martinez and playing moviestarplanet in 2014. Such good times ugh

In 2012 I had a teacher who hated the mustache trend of the time with a passion. She always talked about how stupid she thought it was. So one time when we had a no uniform day at school my best friend at the time and I came to class decked out in head to toe mustache apparel. We both had mustache tees and leggings and my friend drew mustaches on her knock-off converses with vivid. Someone's mum probably has a picture of it on a digital camera somewhere. Those were the days.

I think that 2010s fashion is horrendous BUT I would love to live my tumblr girl life because I was too young to participate in real time lmao
  • @maimaisims
Eventually we'll all be fashionable as the fashion "swing" will just be so back and forth... So we can just wear everything again. I've never followed trends I'm 31, nothing appeals to me anymore I still rock vans, skinny jeans, a t-shirt and a smart blazer.

I was 17 in 2014... was very anxious, stressful, depressing year for me. The internet was my happy place though. I lived for Tumblr and YouTube those days
