DR Congo Army In Disarray? Soldiers "Flee" Battle Zone, Sentenced To Death | Firstpost Africa

As DR Congo's army fights the M23 rebels in the east, it is simultaneously facing other major challenges. The DR Congo army is reportedly in disarray. There are increasing reports of soldiers fleeing the battlefield. A military court in DR Congo has sentenced 25 soldiers to death for "fleeing" the enemy and violating orders. Earlier, in May, 8 officers were sentenced to death for "cowardice". For over two years, Congo's army has been fighting Tutsi-led M23 rebels, who are reportedly backed by Rwanda. But while the M23 rebels have gained more ground in the North Kivu province in recent weeks, the DR Congo military struggles to contain the fighting and the advance. Why are DR Congo's soldiers fleeing the battlefield? Watch this video for details.

  • We are born and grew up in DRC , I am close to 60 years and from my child hood Congo was failed state, well before Kagame took power in Rwanda
  • @WQ-Africanews
That is most high level of stupidity, how thry can send soldiers to the Frontline without weapons yet the minister are enjoying the money with beaches and driving expensive vehicles
  • @jepibier
The DRC is heading for greatness. The blessed and beloved country of Patrice Lumumba will soon become the true giant beacon of hope for the whole Africa continent.
  • @EricJaguar77994
When rebels are more equipped than the army what do you expect?
  • The Rwanda Government has never said they are in DRC. There is an assumption that because M23 is Tutsi they are supported by Rwanda. Again the reporting is one sided, without analysis and regional historical perspective! Has any one really ever examined how long this has gone and its origin?
  • Of course they are against each other because they tried to exterminate all Congolese Tutsi but God stood up for them, fighting with people who are fighting for the survival you can't win that war. DRC is commiting a genocide for it's own people
  • If rwanda is not backing M23, why is it not offering help to DRC to combat M23,
  • Kenya was for diplomacy approach and it was working well and even M23 soldiers start moving their troops DRC government claimed and accused Kenya that it was supporting M23 group and forced Kenya to vacate and seeked South Africa for help who want to use Force to solve the conflict which is not working
  • @abubacarjallow
Stopped foreign military based in Africa if is not African military based
  • @Potatoalex538
They(25) run away fearing death of dying now they are getting dead penalty what an irony😂
  • There's no such thing as "Congolese Tutsis'! There is Rwanda Tutsis only.
  • @frednazami
Its unfair, any human soul can't stand certain death fears.who can stand when death knocks.let the world stand and save these souls at the moment.
  • So, South Africa, Malawi, Burundi, Tanzania, DRC, MONUSCO, Wazalendo, Romanians, France, Wagner, Black water... All can't handle one armed group? or am I missing something? sounds like M23 is much tougher than they thought. They just need to bow down and praise M23, period.
  • Definition by tribe is burning African countries into ashes. We had seen it as Kenyan GEN-Z that's why we stopped the issue of tribes. AFRICAN YOUTHS ARISE TO CHANGE OUR CONTINENT,ARISE.
  • The DRC Government has failed completely to defend its territory and blame Rwanda. That is a total chaos, shame on Felix sctisekedi.
