Breeding Great Pyrenees or not, is not that simple.

I've been breeding GP for a few years. It's a lot of work you could have as many as 12 puppies. The biggest litter I have add is 8 puppies. It does cost a lot of money. food ,vet bills ,time ,vetting people to make sure they are going to be right for the dogs. I have turned away a few people over the years. While there is a better chance that Pyrenees from working lines will produce good livestock guardian dogs, there's no guarantee. LGD lines can produce fantastic show dogs and show dog lines can produce amazing LGDS.

we have a 3 year old male. he's a working LGD. he's a great boy. He's loyal and smart and protective and we live him to bits. He gaurds our chickens and goats and cats and other dogs. We just rescued a one year old female, she is so sweet and looks very promising to being a good guard dog, once she gets over the excitement of chickens flying past her. But we're considering letting them breed once or maybe twice to continue having LGDs for our land and cause our boy is such an amazing dog, we'd love to have his pups. We know they are both pure bred. We have seen the females parents and they were working dogs. Don't know too much of our guys history though, but he's healthy and sound. Any tips or opinions are welcomed. We've never bred, but I have worked with animals professionally over the years and have always had dogs. We don't care about papers or show or anything. We just want healthy genetics and good working dogs.

We now have our 3rd GP. He is a challenge and he’s well worth it. He is the youngest, we also have a Golden Retriever and a Irish Red and White Setter. They all get along well and are fixed so no pups. The GP is a great dog you just have to understand his nature and be firm and patient.

Thanks for the video. I agree on the papers. I've been in the market for a GP for my homestead for a while. I've wanted to make sure it was purebred as I would like to breed them but they will also be strictly working dogs. I've came across some great deals on registered GP puppies, mainly "looking for a good home". I quickly noticed people did not find you a "good home" when you tell them your intentions. To me, thats a perfect home is where they can use their skills for work, but these were more show quality.

We adopted a Great Pyrenees when he was 3 months old He is the best dog that we ever had. Very affectionate and loving. The only issue we have is now he's 1 1/2 years old and weighs 90 lbs. and he refuses to get in the car! Back breaking 😮
  • I have had several other types of dogs, but great Paraneis is the best dog breed we've ever seen. We had a female for fourteen years, the most amazing dog I have ever come across. We,re looking for another female and can hardly wait to find one.

On a side note, that’s a really cool gate behind you.
  • I have a Maremma Great pyrenees mix. I adore her to the moon and back. Perfect dog for our homestead. Your dogs are very beautiful.

I had Storm Fionna neutered a month ago. I did have some problems with the clinic, lol. They thought she was born during Fiona and didn't want to sterilise her until April. It took some fast talking for them to realize I got her during the storm and she was three months old. Never again will I name a pet after anything dated.

OK so I have a question about breeding… we have two great Pyrenees… they’re both almost 2 years old… our female has gone into heat twice but our male can’t seem to figure out “how to make puppies”… is this a common problem with the breed or do I just have a not so smart male Pyranees?
  • Another video that’s perfect for my question… When can I expect my female to first come in heat … she is 12 weeks now..

Question, what do you feed her when she nurses,my female thinned out a lot, I was feeding her twice as much and multi vitamins. Puppies are now 6 weeks old and weaned, and still on the thin side
