Guitar neck Repair! - How to fix a separated acoustic guitar neck!

Published 2020-01-23
This is pretty common issue to happen with acoustic guitars where the neck separates from the body. Easy fix all you need is wood glue and a large clamp. Let it dry over night and it's good as new, if not better.

Someone gave me a Hohner guitar to fix a separated neck. Thanks for making me look like a professional!

Got a nearly 20 yr old guitar from a Pawn Shop to get back into playing. It has just a tiny bit of separation. I knew to release the tension on the strings immediately but didn't know how exactly to fix it. I will definitely be doing this repair when I get the materials. Thanks for the tutorial!
  • Many thanks for this how to. We bought a guitar at a school auction for the kids and it came with this neck separation. Looking forward to the kids learning and playing it when it is repaired.

Great video, I have a really old Bently, that wasn't taken care of at all, and I'm in the process of restoring it, you just saved me from putting a screw in the neck.

Thank you so much! My friend gifted me her uncle’s old guitar and I didn’t notice the damage till today! Excited to fix it up! :)
  • I got Musima classic guitar from a friend with that issue. I started watching neck reset videos but it's complete overkill Bigger clamp and the woodglue? Works fine for me Thank you for saving my time! (and that guitar from being a SNAFU)

I got a busted up Martin D-15M from a friend a couple of years ago for 50€ and the neck separation is the only major thing I was too scared to try to repair myself. Thanks a lot for this video!

Thanks! my son broke his student guitar and I am attempting to fix it this way. Would really love to be able to keep it, as it's the perfect guitar for him, and he's really trying to learn.

Thank you very much for this video. One of my guitars has this same problem. I'm going to use your information to fix one of my guitar 🎸 collection. Great instruction video.
  • Great clear video. I'm gonna have a go on an old guitar wife bought from a charity shop without realising it was broken. If it works I'll get some cheap replacement heads to replace the old ones which are really stiff.
  • Good video! I have a friend with a small body Martin 00-14 It has the exact same thing going on, but only a tiny tiny bit of separation between the body and neck heel. After watching your video I believe it’s something that I can do. I just need to get one of those sliding clamps and some wood glue.

I just bought a Fender ukulele in this condition. It's currently sitting on my workbench with two clamps on it while the glue dries. I simply flexed the joint open a tad and the glue ran right in, then squeezed out the side as expected. There are no support pegs in it.

I use a ratchet strap instead of clamps for neck re-glues.
  • I don’t have a large clamp, but we have a small ratchet strap… would putting the strap around the flat side of the body work?

I tried this years ago on my buddys epiphone, but I dont think I clamped it like this, gonna try it again because the same thing happened to it again and its been out of commision for a year. Sounds way better than his other acoustic so I dont wanna give up on it,
  • Thank you for this video. I have done guitar repair in the past, but my major repair is to glue a separated neck. My only concern is if I glue the separated neck back, will it affect the neck angle.

Just bought a guitar super cheap that has the same exact issue I’m talking when I put the glue I’ll just put a screw in it and then I won’t need a clamp because the screw will hold it and of course I’ll just leave the screw in it hopefully that’ll work don’t have to be perfect I got the guitar super cheap as long as it’s playable
