I was part of a church group in Israel in 2019, and sure enough fell for the schwarma plate scam in Jerusalem. Having lived and worked overseas for many years, I was totally embarrassed by making a rookie mistake!

The menu with no prices has become a real black mark on businesses for me. I haven't been to Israel, but have experienced this several times in USA, usually nicer places.

Unfortunately about the taxi drivers it's right. When you coming from Ben Gurion airport ( tlv ) it's faster to get a train then taxi almost everywhere and cheaper. One thing you didn't mentioned that in our holidays ( Rosh Hashanah, passover and some other ) the prices of hotels is really high. So when you plan your trip here think about that

First beach line shops mark up the prices by crazy percentage. Bring your own beer, snacks and food. Even a few minutes walk mini markets will have it cheaper that on the beach or first line shops.
