Hi, I'm Maggie and I have Crohn's disease. I am thrilled to be here sharing my personal experiences with Inflammatory Bowel Disease as well as living with an ostomy. I'm proud to share a little bit from a clinical experience as well, having worked as a GI pediatric nurse and ostomy telehealth nurse. I am so glad you are here. โฅ #ostomy #ibd #chronicillness

Dr Mattei?! I was in the hospital for almost 2 years on 5south. I thought my life was over when I got my ileostomy and just felt so frustrated. And then nurses shows me your videos and I swear you saved my life. I just was in awe of your confidence and the fact that you went to school etc. thank you from the bottom of my heart โค

Maggie this was very interesting. I have mentioned I lost my sister to Crohnโs disease in July as she didnโt get proactive in any of her care. It caused us to break ties for a bit as I was upset by her lack of caring about herself and disease. I only wish she would have watched your channel and got to understand all like you do. I often brought you up and explained what I heard and learned. She was in denial for 24 years. She died at 64. She took her life rather than fight to live with crohns. Itโs quite sad when the info is out there and can be shared with patients and family alike. Great job and bless you for what you do!!!

Hi Maggie! I am a former bedside nurse of 27 years. I had to leave bedside nursing due to a shoulder injury. In life there are many seasons and this is a season of change for me. I am now looking at jobs that are not physically demanding. I feel blessed that nursing offers so many opportunities! I really enjoy your content! โค๐ค

I remember back in the late 80's, early 90's, a friend of the family was a traveling nurse. She explained how she had a base hospital, but when other hospitals were short-staffed, she would go work for them. As I got a bit older and had a few stays in hospitals, I saw the nursing shortage first hand. I have my own channel, where I have talked about my journey with chronic illness, although I haven't been strict with myself on uploading. You've given me some ideas! I don't want to just be a vlog channel, I never really wanted that. I want others to know my story so they don't feel alone. I didn't get diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome until I was in my mid 40's! That's not right. Dr's should be listening to patients, and patients should know what they can do to be heard.

This is very inspiring to me. And it makes me smile when you're smiling and happy telling your story. It's contagious and makes me happy for you. I haven't finished listening to all of it yet. P.S. Your eyes look gawgeous, gawgeous!

I've been a bell notified sub for a few years, but now have severe stomach/bowel problems. What I know already I've learned from you before my own issues. Thank you, Maggie for not only this video, but for sharing even the most intimate details of your journey. ๐โค๏ธ

It takes a wise decision to move another step of your life, Miss Maggie, being an advocate should be meaningful.

You are my great help and support!

As a peer to peer counseling member for new Crohns patients I fully understand your experiences as they mirror many of my own. Looking forward to part 2 of this adventure. Take care Maggie. PS: Zak did you score a new Raptor yet? ๐๐๐ป๐จ๐ฆ

Yeah, this makes sense. Too bad you had to explain it all. But it's an interesting story and explains what I guessed and makes a lot of sense. (I too felt at first, what, you didn't like nursing? But then I figured it got basically impossible. Nursing is a hard profession and requires a lot of selfless compassion and it also has physical demands and all kinds of things. God bless you for Everything that you've done. It is wonderful that you get to do something that came so naturally to you and you enjoy. I wonder if it's possible to view some of that IBD Day on The Hill?!)

Maggie, I'm curious if u had considered being an ostomy/woc nurse? Do u feel it's less stressful than other types of nursing? It's something I've considered myself (as a former rn w an ostomy), but my health is too unpredictable to commit to that atm, unfortunately. Your story is incredible and I always find strength after viewing your videos ๐ค
