Thrift store-found VHS tape with weird music on it (archived from a deleted channel)

A few or more years ago I used to work at a local Red White & Blue Thrift center and the employees would always get first pick on any of the items that were dropped off. There was a box full of VHS tapes, some of which were horror movies. I grabbed four of the tapes. The tapes have remained on my shelf and never watched any of them until recently over the pandemic when the entire world was in lockdown. I went to go watch The Shining. I took the tape out of it's box and noticed there was no label on the VHS tape. I popped it in and to my surprise this is what was on that tape. I was a little irritated, as I am a big Stephen King fan and was looking to watch the movie. I fast forwarded the tape, but it goes all blank after the music and clouds stop. I figured, some jack-ass decided to over dub cheesy music over some boring video footage of clouds. After all these months, I decided to convert the VHS footage to digital and post it.
No idea who made this tape, whether it's some kind of joke, or what the music is. I tried to use the Shazam music app to see if I could identify, but no luck there. Maybe someone else knows? If I had to make an honest guess, I think possibly the tape is a student experiment for a class and maybe they made a tape compiled of music to throw on top of it and they accidentally put it in the wrong cassette box? Either way, I find it interesting or maybe slightly creepy. I was goin to throw the tape away, but something about the whole ordeal, I find very interesting.

Back before ebay ruined Goodwill I used to buy 35mm cameras that sometimes had half-exposed rolls of film in them. Getting them developed revealed pictures of what sometimes were ghosts of people past.

Sounds like a 1990s clubbing tape, possibly used in the chill-out room. Fabulous soundtrack, really enjoyed it. :)

Boards of Canada is not the only artist that makes music like this….. there’s many that never got famous, it’s hard to blow up like they did when you’re an instrumental artist for the obvious reason you can’t search for the lyrics to identify instrumental pieces…

My friken heart just jumped a beat there when track 16 "See Ya Later" came on. That tune was my very first introduction to BOC when I stumbled upon listening to them back in 2005

I'm pretty sure this is just a "visual mixtape" from a huge BoC fan, which combined his own work (or maybe from others), including two covers of the duo. Having said that, it's pretty damn good and I'm glad you reuploaded it, so thank you. For all we know, there could be a bandcamp page with all the tracks from this video.

I forgot to add the following. The original uploader was called 'The Thrift Store Anomaly'. They also posted the place they found the thrifted VHS: The Red White and Blue Thrift Store at 935 Ohio River Blvd., Avalon, Pennsylvania That gives some credibility to the fact that they may have actually just found it. I still think the original VHS was not made by Boards of Canada though and just a random person. Anyway, thought I'd give you the entire context if you want to believe this is a Boards of Canada VHS tape :P Edit: more information has come to light about the original VHS. Heard about this today from a DJ on wirelessfm. It certainly sounds like Boards of Canada in parts but the question is why would they do a mix to VHS with a barely moving video and lose it in the USA. Its seems they rarely do gigs so my theory of them messing with tape editing on a tour bus is out. If the found tape part of the story is real then great, someone has done a mix tape and put it on VHS with ambient footage to watch whilst stoned. It's just the sort of thing I would do. Most likely explanation is that someone has created an internet mystery to see how many people bite. Lots of these found VHS tapes are obviously fake.
