This is the Absolute Black Hollowcage Review

Key Points.

1. AB claim the bearings do not spin freely because they were designed that way. The analysis shows the fit is poor, the bearing is extremely flexible
2. AB claim their bearings are fully ceramic. In tribology, that would be considered to be a full complement bearing, typically one that is devoid of a cage. These bearings contain a significant amount of plastic
3. From their own videos and analysis AB has used a torque transducer that measures to +/- 0.66W (+/-0.015Nm @ 44.53Rad/s) to claim their OSPW is 0.132W superior to that of Ceramicspeed
4. Their bearings are very soft for a ceramic bearing, they scratch easily
5. The bearings are extremely flexible and lack any rigidity, this is a combination of excessive clearance and a weak cage
6. Sale price to the trade is approximately €230
7. AB Graphenlube does not appear to have a Safety Datasheet.

I cannot emphasise how important point 3 is, the product is marketed and sold on it's wattage savings.

for clarification, the torque distribution mentioned is towards the centre of the bike frame. technically it's a torque vector. end loads (torque) are prohibited with torque sensors but a power meter will generally have this capability built in.

The thing to take away from this video, is the power savings they are claiming do not appear to be valid. Their equipment doesn't appear to be accurate enough. I would point out that I have been quite conservative in the error. Power is the product of torque and angular speed (cadence), As an example, the speed reading is +/- 1 RPM. If you do that on a cadence of 90RPM, that is already 1% error. That is even before we discuss the torque limitations.

It's January 2023 right now and this example of a $30.00 part (I'm being generous) being sold for $700.00 is the perfect example of why the cycling industry is in for a VERY rough ride for the next one, two or three years. There's going to be a LOT of fallout and I wonder who's going to survive.

Let me tell you what you didn't know. Englineers at Absolute Black can measure the speed of light using stop watch app on their android phones!
  • @ozbozo99
One of the most restrained Hambini performances ever. Clearly itching to unload on these AbsoluteCrap morons but can't for fear this video will be taken down. Another stellar demonstration of pure marketing BS. Love your work Hambini, keep it up (pun intended) 🤣
  • @Willowfifteen
It's been up for 2 hours without a ban, Absolute Black must've forgotten to set their clocks for BST. It's scary that a company with a really precise machine could forget about such things. Great video @hambini

Hambini I am sure it was difficult for you to remain that reserved Bravo. But also a thank you as no doubt you expose companies that take advantage of consumers! Have a great Sunday! 👍
  • Game over and Hambini won by K.O. at the second assault 🙌 we should have more Hambinis in this world and not only in the bike industry. Thank you for all your amazing work 👌
  • I feel for you being so tired of rip off companies. Your work is imperative. keep it up for sure.😉
  • @jinxu683
usually when you get roasted its funny and everyone has a laugh, but when Hambini does it the shade he throws is soo sophisticated you're left contemplating life choices, pls keep the cycling industry in check.
  • @derekwood4844
Called you an armchair engineer then used your work on bearings, that makes sense

Men don't buy those things because of the engineering or anything else related. They buy them because their bike is their mistress and they're buying jewelry to hang on her so they can show off when they take her out in public. The guys who have ceramic this and that on their bikes out on group rides are the ones with the least fitness and ability, trying to compensate. It's like people who can't cook filling their home kitchen with the most expensive knives, pots and pans.
  • Brilliant once again really appreciate you takeing the effort to ream these companies that aim to make maximum profit from selling unsubstantiated claims 👏
  • @ChocolateFrog
For $700 I'd expect it to come with the rest of the bike.
  • @jasper12785
This is gold On the one hand we have Shimano with all their cycling experience and solid engineering along with the best bearing manufacturers in the world like NTN with their way of how bearings are engineered, work and made; both with excellent manufacturer tolerances. On the other hand we have AbsoluteBlack that tries to do a combination of both in their own way. I wonder who will come out on top.

The most important take away from this video: 5 year old (as all other ages): DON'T cut towards you, always cut away from you 😛
  • @TheMASDrummer
1970s: "I'm sure we'll have flying cars in the future." 2021: "hold my derailleur cage"
  • @arifazhari7598
I believe peaktorque was waiting for that pun. This is absolutely nice, another YouTuber "mentioned" another YouTuber and collaboration to roast the sh*t of BS marketing.
  • @deskelly9313
So it's more expensive, heavier, slower, flimsy af and the bearings are shite. Have I missed anything? Oh yeah, they're not complying with legislation re safety datasheet.
  • I have been waiting for this like an eager child on Christmas morning 🤣 This review was a real credit to both your technical and diplomatic skills 👏 Thank you for content like this, exposing the greed and arrogance of some of the manufacturers.
  • @dubvulture99
Hambini being restrained is like when my dad would get so angry he would go quiet. You knew to just back away slowly.
