The fact that NYCTA still uses these 45 tonners shows that they were built with quality.

It’s real sad what happened to these cars. The R46 set could be repaired and returned to service, but since the R46’s will soon be replaced by the R211’s, the MTA will most likely still scrap it anyway. The R142 set is much sadder though, as it was a NEW TECH set. 6347 was damaged beyond repair by the blazing inferno that took the life of train op Garret Goble, so it’s definitely gonna have to be scrapped. R142 Cars 6346, 6348, 6349, and 6350 however might either find a new life as pump trains or be sent to a museum to be preserved. Cars 6366-6370 which were repaired and returned to service might be wrapped in memory of Goble.

I could of sworn I saw set 6350-6346 use on 2 line last year. What R142 replace the R142 that got damaged in 2020 fire at 110 st
