Preamp Mix Glue with the L2P

Published 2018-04-18
There's a secret weapon you can use to add analog glue to your mixes that you might already have in your studio.

In this video we show you how to reamp mixes through your preamps using the L2P Passive Line Attenuator. www.diyrecordingequipment.com/products/l2p

    I have 4 of the Capi vp28’s, love them❤️
  • Great video! At the moment I can't afford getting the SSL Fusion (or any other dedicated outboard mastering equipment) so I was just thinking of doing a similar thing and running my final mix through my preamp which is an SPL Gold Mike (vacuum tube pre) hoping to add some overall 'analogue flair' to the sound... Thanks again!

pushing the idea a little further, even if you have a line input on your preamp you should use the Mic input anyway as, generally , if the design as been made with a MIC transformer AND a separate Line transformer, the mic Transformer will have a higher Ratio than the Line ( wich is suppose to be 1:1 really transparent by nature). Therefore, the mic trafo will color the sound far more. Also, on a neve 1073 ideally i'll use a 45db linepad and crank up really high the mic pre to find the sweet spot. 30db is a bit light for neve pre i think.
  • Excellent idea. Have you ever tried with a 1073 or 1073 clone? Just curious. Thanks. Phil NYC Area

was wondering if you have any info on patchbay’s you could share

What if you do one bus or track that has a very focused set of tones and harmonies? I think preamp tubes add rich overtones to those dominant signals. Could that make a better enhancement than running the whole mix through?

Jesse, great vid. But you explained how to get DAW master bus, stereo 2-channel signal into the external CAPI preamp, but how did you get the 2 pres outputs back into DAW so the pre effect gets printed as final mix effect?

What if i sum the mix through the SB2 and before hitting the preamps, use the L2P? Would that be practical? Aside the L2P, i own all those little boxes. They are full of colour! Make me want to buy the L2P now! Let's go.
