This is not her first time beating 3 chinese players in a row to win the tournament. 2017 Asian Championships where she beat Ding Ning, Zhu Yuling and Chen Meng. Good to see strong Miu back!
  • One of the greatest matches in the past decade for the women's table tennis world tournament.

The strategy of Hirano and her coach worked 100% The task was to play in the right corner of the Chinese. I think a lot of work has been done to identify a weak spot and it turned out that way. It was time to take her off her pedestal. Sincere congratulations to Hirano and her team!

Hirano defeating 3 top Chinese players in a row, including the reigning world champion. A reminder that Hirano's performance at the Asian Championships 2017 really happened and was not a fluke. Bravo!

Unbelievable.. What happened to Hirano??? Where this huge improvement against Chinese came from? Massive consistency and power... I was screaming with every point she won.. Congratulations Miu

Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉 So happy to see Miu Hirano back to winning circle.
  • Congratulation to Hirano and team Japan, of course both of them played such a great TT. This is beauty of Table Tennis.
  • An amazing result, very happy for Japan. The burning question is how exactly did Miu chan do it? Not entirely sure, but watching it live I was struck by 2 things. First, she returned well throughout the match. In particular, she coped very well with the long-fast service routine elite Chinese players seem fond of these days. Second, Sun played too conservatively and was too eager to engage in the diagonal backhand to backhand rallies Miu excels in. Underlying this, my impression was Sun was too confident....and who can blame her? Just won the world championship, never lost to Hirano before. Just beaten Hayata comfortably, playing equally conservatively. Also, it's not exactly the case she played badly. Sprinkled throughout the match were massive backhand-forehand combinations Hirano couldn't live with. Until the last set I was thinking, it's only a question of time before Sun pulls away. Only she didn't. Well played Miu, her best result since 2017.

Wow! Amazing result by Hirano. Congratulations to her! Takes so much to beat a top Chinese player!

Luck and excellent coaching and nerves of steel. Who knew that always attacking the backhand side could result in a win? Bravo! But Sun Yingsha will be well coached to counter next time.

You don't see that every day. Excellent play by Miu, she has stepped up recently and was getting closer and closer to that win.
