It was then, when the Hacienda de Santa María de Miraflores was renamed El Carmen de Miraflores. The Hacienda was extremely productive, to the extent that the Carmelites were able to found the convent and the church of El Carmen de Guadalajara.

In 1837 the parents sold the property, which passed from hand to hand until 1961, the year in which it was sold to Marta Serrano Zermeño and her husband, Dr. Joaquín Baeza del Monte, who restored the main house to convert it in 2001 into a luxurious hotel and spa.

    La zona de Teuchitlán, al norte del estado de Jalisco, cerca de Tequila, fue ocupada desde tiempos muy remotos por algunos grupos de cazadores y recolectores; de ahí hasta la llegada de los españoles a la laguna de Etzatlán, se sucedieron múltiples acontecimientos y cambios en la población de la zona, hasta que designado el territorio de Nueva Galicia, Nuño de Guzmán fue de los primeros europeos en llegar a donde hoy se encuentra un sitio maravilloso, lleno de historia y decorado con pinceladas de épocas fastuosas y que ostenta el nombre de Hacienda El Carmen, un Spa como pocos en el país, por su paisajística totalmente diferente, donde la paz reina en el ambiente y se siente pasar el tiempo por la piel.
