In his first year on the job, Batman feels his way around a Gotham City far darker than the one he left. His solemn vow to extinguish the town’s criminal element is only half the battle; along with Lieutenant James Gordon, the Dark Knight must also fight a police force more corrupt than the scum in the streets. • It is so darkly humorous to read this story after Batman: Dark Mirror when you realize what James Gordon Jr. grows up to be.
  • The best part, obviously, was Tiffany showing up in the middle to say Batman was stabbed by a hooker. This episode was so fun. You guys are the best.
  • @xombiegriffin
In a city where everyone plays ball, one man decides to play hockey. Another great video, Sal!
  • @tomprice2587
'The city is mostly alleys' You have crime alley, rape alley, murder alley, chocolate fudge sundae alley..
  • @AnnoBathory
i turned my head for one second and then Tiffany is just there and it made me jump.
  • Can you blame Selina for being so quick to switch professions? Being a prostitute is a pain in the ass. That's extra of course, but y'know...
  • @alexhaddon330
Sal: having Bruce Wayne surrounded by bats in Batman begins is over the top and overly dramatic. Also Sal: why did they cut out a scene where Val Kilmer stands in front of car sized bat creature in Batman forever, that would’ve been awesome
  • If I were recommending Batman stories, I'd do his first canonical five years as Batman Batman Year One Man Who Laughs Mad Monk Monster Men (Mr Freeze, Poison Ivy, Mad Hatter, Penguin, Scarecrow, Riddler origins) Long Halloween Dark Victory Gauntlet Robin Year One Batgirl Year One
  • This is THE single best Back Issues episode EVER, perfect combination of storytelling, comedy ad story theme analysis. You guys are the freakin best, live this channel.

Man first Jim cheats on Barbra Then Grant Morrison turns Jim Jr into a serial killer Mama Gordon has the worst luck
  • @OJFX
In the animated movie Bryan Cranston play Gordon and he's perfect.
  • @keikurono192
I always like to imagine Batman: Year One is like the Taxi Driver of Batman comics.
  • @steellegionaire
The sheer joy in Tiffany's eyes at the concept of Batman getting stabbed by a hooker is just infectious (kinda like whatever diseases must've been on that knife that Batman was stabbed with). :)

Ah, the times when Frank Miller could write a good story without it going off too much into his crazy, unbound, extreme imagination.
  • @desi_no_aka
Just finished my first read through ever… and this lived up to the hype and more. It was hard to imagine it being able to do that beforehand but wow. Frank Miller wrote beautifully and the art was perfect then and now makes my mind harken to the past

When they talk about how everyone talks in fragments and Ethan says, “I’m reading it in Batman’s voice,” and Sal says, “everyone kinda talks like Batman,” I had a huge laugh thinking “Gotham makes a different breed” but honestly it kind of works with Miller. I don’t think he planned that, but it works with this story

Darren Aronofsky was also supposed to direct a WOLVERINE film, a Robocop film, and an adaptation of Frank Miller's RONIN.
