Acclaimed author Arundhati Roy could soon face trial under India's contested "anti-terror" laws in a case that has drawn outrage from free speech advocates in India and beyond. An official from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's far-right ruling Bharatiya Janata Party gave the go-ahead on Friday for Roy's prosecution over comments she made about Kashmir in 2010. This comes as Modi was sworn in last week to his third term as prime minister after the BJP won the most seats in Indian's Parliament, but lost its outright majority. "This case is so convoluted, it's hard to say where it begins and where it ends — and that's the point. The process is the punishment," says Indian author and journalist Siddhartha Deb, who teaches at The New School in New York. Deb says Modi is trying to show that "everything is normal" despite the shocking electoral setback, with the case against Roy being used to placate his "rabid attack dogs of Hindu nationalism."

If Kashmir was never part of India why, the king Harisingh of Kashmir asked help of Indian military and Indian Government when Pakistan came to conquer the land of Kashmir.

Propaganda is when you blame Modi without stating it's the previous liberal Congress government is the one that filed the case. Propaganda is when you're deafeningly quiet about Julian Assange and Edward Snowden persecuted in the West, while not missing a beat about governments elsewhere.

People stuck in the same loop generation after generation. Exact same arguments. Same attacks on each other can be seen for 80 years now in any newspaper archive.

Interesting show. I was wondering if you could bring in speakers like Rajiv Malhotra, David Frawley, or even Kavindra Rishi (a.k.a. Jeffrey Armstrong) to your show to discuss social political culture of India. It seems you only have one segment of India’s political spectrum on your shows and seems extremely lacking in cultural context. I think in having a rounded out set of speakers would be best, otherwise excluding one side of the ideological spectrum makes it seem intellectually dishonest.

I have been a lifelong democrat and a Kashmiri Hindu. My family and other Kashmiris hindus were ethnically cleansed in the winter of Jan 19, 1989. For decades, there was no mention of our plight, and these western shills like Arundhati Roy kept talking about separating Kashmir from India. I am sorry but in any other country, someone like Ms. Roy would be branded a traitor, but it's undemocratic when it is not the west. I just proudly unsubscribed from this channel because you are anything but Democracy!
