Casey, Thank you for doing this video. Gordon Jesse Walker was my grandpa. He taught all of the grandkids the Walker Hitch when we were young. He was a great man. Thanks for keeping his hitch and this part of his legacy alive. Jesse

After calling Outfitters Pack Station and talking with them, I decided to adopt this hitch on my latest pack trip. I ordered the cinches form them which was painless. Previously, we had been using the Not-a-knot system, which frankly does not secure the load enough...we were always having to repack multiple times each day. So we just got off a 50+ mile pack trip in the teton wilderness. We had two animals loaded with the walker hitch. In that entire trip, we only had to repack one time...and that was because a pad slipped out. I can't tell you how well this hitch works! I'm incredibly grateful for this video and for OPS!

You guys know your stuff. I have had horses all my life (over 60 years) but because I live in Britain, I have never seen a mule and I don't know anything about pack saddles except what is common sense and experience of horses. When I watched a few of your videos I subscribed because you really know what you're talking about and I need to get our pony to learn to carry some camping gear for my sister and I because she won't want to be left alone when we take the horses camping next summer. Before this year she would have had company but not anymore. I am not going to be loading her down but if she's coming she needs to pull her weight and she likes doing stuff anyway. I thought some small panniers and the tent wouldn't be too much for her but I need to know exactly what I am doing and need to make sure she is comfortable at all times. Thanks for the down to earth, no nonsense content.

That's PERFECTION at TYING the LOAD on the back of this MULE , CONGRATULATIONS for you're DEMOSTRATION !!! THANKS !!!

Stewart Edward White called it a "Basco Hitch" in a book called Camp and Trail, Copyright 1906, I learned it as the "Basket Hitch" in 1992 in the Wind Rivers of Wyoming, it is sure enough a good hitch, especially if you are alone!

How much weight is in each box?
-
This actually justba slightly modified box hitch
-
Do you need a half breed when you are using plastic panniers?
-
I was taught 40 years ago not to load boxes that are already full. Load the boxes while they are on the Mule to visionally make sure the load is even to protect the mule from weight shift while on the trail.

Very confusing. Slow it down. Remember you’re trying to teach people who don’t know how to do it instead of trying to impress people with how fast you can do it. You need to give the cameraman time to get into a better position.
