I got rid of most of my possessions and have decided to make a huge life change to move across the country to live in another city. Leading up to this decisions has made me reflect on a lot of things about life. In this video, I share 8 of those things.

1. Life Is About Trying, Not Winning

When we think about doing something different in life, we often focus on winning and achieving something; however, I believe that "trying" is the destination. It is important to try different things in life to see what happens because when you at least try you know the outcome. And knowing the outcome is ultimately what is important.

2. You Only Get One Shot At Life

As I have entered my 30s, it is strange to think that I will never be in my 20s again. It caused me to reflect on the shortness of life and how it is important to not let your life pass you by and take chances. This is the only life you'll get, so take chances to do what you want.

3. Don’t Let Money Prevent You From Doing What You Want

I often talk about how debt and no savings prevent people from doing what they want in life because it limits your options. However, having an extremely low cost of living can also hold you back because it can make you afraid of losing your level of security. If you have money, you should use it to do more of what you want in life.

4. You’ll Never Be Fully Secure In Life

Something I have learned in the past year of doing YouTube full time is that no matter what you do, there is no certainty. It doesn't matter how cautiously you live your life, you will never be fully secure. Don't be afraid to take chances and do something out of the ordinary because certainty is just a myth.

5. Don’t Worry About The Future Too Much

We can often start to think about the future and begin to think of all the bad things that can happen. The future, however, is what you are doing right now and if you make good decisions in the present, then your future will probably turn out OK. It is important to not get trapped into worrying about the future.

6. Don’t Let Society’s Expectations Decide How You Live Your Life

Oftentimes when you choose to do something out of the ordinary, people judge you and your decisions. This judgement can cause you to change your ways to please other people. It is important to be who you want to be and do what you want to do despite what other people say.

7. Life Has Its Season

In life, there are different seasons where we do different things: seasons of reflection, transition, and adventure. It is important to embrace each season of life and also know when it is time to move onto the next season.

8. Live Courageously

Throughout this past year, I have learned that no matter what you do in life there will be some fear involved. What is important, however, is that you don't let that fear hold you back. It is important to live your life courageously and not let fear hold you back.

Your one of my most enlightening YouTuber and I’m 62.
  • I'm 46 now, but when I was 23 I bought a $500 used minivan and moved 6 states away with no job, no belongings except what I had in the van, and not knowing a single soul. It was the best decision I ever made.

You'll be at 100,000 before you know it. You are an insightful, bright and refreshing voice on YouTube.
  • I find myself in a unique situation right now. For decades, Ive owned a home and had a full time job and a family. My family is grown, My wife passed away from dementia and due to her medical issues and expenses, I no longer own a house. I have a good pension (I'm retired) and now have the choice to go where ever I want and do what I want. Im trying to make similar decisions as you right now. We will see where I end up. Good luck in your journey
  • This was so timely for me. I’m twice your age and planning to make big changes that I’m terrified to make. Your words help so much! Good luck! I can’t wait to see where life takes you. Thank you !
  • Hi Austin I moved across the country when I was 30 and have lived in Alberta and BC for over 30 years. I just turned 60 and have made the decision to get rid of everything, pack up my car and move across the country to my home province. It will be a one week drive almost 4,000 km. I am excited about transitioning to a new life. So nice to listen to your story! Best of luck to you.

I'm extremely depressed at the moment mostly due to housing, finances, isolation, grief and fear of the future but found myself nodding to this video. Then whatever you said at the end and the way you said it made me laugh so thank you for that! I've subscribed.

Yes! My motto is, "Things are are always working out for me." And it's true. I'm 69 and it's true in 100% of my past endeavors. Good luck! Exciting!

You are so right: it's better to have tried and failed than not having tried at all. I tried being self-employed for a bit. I was one of the majority of new businesses that fail within the first year, but I can look back and say I did it. 😊

Minimalism, also financially, is the key to face uncertainty.
  • @fafa1648
My goal for 2024 is to further reduce my expenses as much as humanly possible and get rid of 75% of my junk. Perhaps not completely clearing my house like you did, but really eliminating everything I do not use or need. Expenses + things = anchor.
  • @michaelbevan1081
My emphasis on people not liking you is usually: “ if they have a problem with me? That’s not my problem, it’s their’s.” Keep up the good work Austin. Best of luck with your move.

A lot of us were raised like you said, to get a good education, a good job, get married have kids. Scared to do things out of the ordinary and take risks. Now we are seeing people that dedicated 20-30 years at a company get laid off. It wasn’t until recently on you tube I’m hearing younger generations saying it’s ok to fail and pivot and try new things. Best wishes for your new chapter and Thank you for helping us prioritize and keep on track with our finances. 💗
  • Austin, I just wanted to say thank you. I've been watching you for nearly a year now, and I've gotten so much from your example. We're the same age, but I'm up in Canada. Because of you I started making a go at this YouTube thing - it's something I always wanted to do but it was your transparency with your YouTube journey, and specifically your video where you talked about how you were able to go full time through saving and being frugal, that pushed me to start posting regularly. I am looking forward to what you've got next when you get settled back in Georgia - good luck with the move! I'm planning to road trip down to Savannah later this year, so I'll keep my eyes peeled for you haha!
  • Hi Austin. I really appreciate this video. I think we’re kindred spirits. I am twice your age but I have always been adventurous and I’ve moved a lot and I’ve done a lot of different things and I can relate to your need for change and adventure. Being able to navigate change, I have found, has helped me to feel confident that it’s always going to work out no matter what happens or what the circumstances are. I trust myself to be able to be resourceful and find a way to make things happen if I want them bad enough. I think that you are doing wonderfully — you’re up to 75 thousand subscribers! Your channel has grown exponentially in just a few months! All that work you’ve put in is finally reaping some rewards. Be proud of yourself. I look forward to seeing your new environment. Say hi to your family for all of us.
  • @Luncheon23
Congrats on 75k Agustin! I'm sure that we'll get excellent content in your new home after your big move. Thank you for the regular inspiration you give us, long may it continue 😀
  • @daodejing81
You've lived many lives. At 30, you are atypically wise. You dispense common sense, but common sense is in short supply in our world.
  • Good luck Augustine. I sent my grandson your videos so that he can go from 19 to 30 living his best life.
  • @virgil3241
I like being complacent right now. I just turned 51, and am now an empty nester. Right now, Im enjoying having time to myself and not looking for the next thing, and just enjoying being me. How long will it last, no idea.
  • @ladyjade9494
I gave up everything and moved abroad with just a suitcase and I completely regretted it! I came back far worse than when I left but if I hadn't of done it I would have never of known and I would have regretted that my whole life! Things are on the up now ❤ xxx
