U1510 Check Engine Light - Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra
amzn.to/47eFjGh - Active Air Shuter
The U1510 code in a 2018 Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra typically indicates a communication problem within the vehicle's network, mainly related to the LIN (Local Interconnect Network) bus. This code signals a loss of communication with a specific device on the LIN bus
The active air shutter system is a component in some modern vehicles, including the 2017 & 2018 Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra, designed to improve aerodynamics and fuel efficiency. These shutters open and close based on the vehicle's speed and engine temperature to control airflow through the radiator.
While there might not be a direct correlation between the U1510 code and active air shutter failure, it's essential to understand that communication issues between control modules (which the U1510 code indicates) can affect various vehicle systems, including the active air shutter system. Communication problems might lead to erratic behavior or failure of specific systems, including the active air shutter.
In some cases, a loss of communication between control modules might trigger fault codes related to the active air shutter system. If the U1510 code is present alongside issues with the active air shutter, it could suggest an underlying communication problem affecting the operation of the shutter system. However, the U1510 code doesn't expressly point to the active air shutter failure but indicates a communication problem within the vehicle's network.

To resolve this issue:
Diagnostic Scan: Start with a comprehensive diagnostic scan using an OBD-II scanner to retrieve the trouble codes, including the U1510 code.
OM129 Pro Scan tool - The scanner used in this video was provided to us for free through the Amazon Vine Review program. It is an excellent entry-level code scanner that is reasonably priced.

Inspect LIN Bus and Connections: Check the LIN bus connections and wiring harnesses for any damage, loose connections, or corrosion that might interfere with communication between modules.

Address U1510 Code: Diagnose and repair the underlying cause of the U1510 code, which involves troubleshooting the communication system to identify faulty modules, wiring issues, or software problems.

Active Air Shutter Inspection: If the active air shutter system is experiencing problems, inspect it separately for any physical damage, obstructions, or malfunctioning components.

Addressing the U1510 code and resolving communication issues within the vehicle's network is crucial, as this might indirectly impact the proper functioning of various vehicle systems, potentially including the active air shutter system in the 2018 Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra.

That is some real high tech tomfoolery there brother. I love how you did that with the pressure sensors man. You rock!
  • Nice video Steve! I think you covered that very well and did a good job explaining the procedures. When the shutters weren't working, did it make you engine run hotter? Thanks!✌🇺🇸
  • TPMS Sensors are a pain in the Butt. My dash warning light is on more than it's off. Seems like I'm always replacing dead sensors in my tires ! ☹
  • Love the trick to fool the tpms sensor, glad you were able to fix the louver
  • @GreyRockOne
Great Video! Are you not able to to do a TPMS re-learn with the trucks sensors ?

Above my pay grade 🙂 Happy New Year 🎊
  • do you have a link and/or video on that "tire pressure sensor" fooler and the actual tool to reset them?
  • @scotth7782
U should be able to clear that with that snap on scanner
  • @TheNick58636
Did the light come back on? I am having same issue with 2017gmc Sierra. Changed 2 grilles. Alternator, ambient temp sensor. Cannot get the light to stay off lol so aggravating. But ur video was helpful.
  • @roarii1218
What was the fuse we should check first?
  • @josh_WASeta
Has this active grill shutter given you any issues? I saw the reviews for the one you recommended and some have had issues. I was curious only because I have this same exact problem
  • @scotth7782
Tpms if sensor don't see motion they go to sleep
  • @Zabarotropitili
Those grille shutters are a pain in ass. I can't find an electrician who is willing to take over this issue due to lack of experience with gm cars and required software. Obd scanner is not helpful for them.
