I use Fraps, but depending on the quality of your PC and the thing you are trying to record, Fraps can cause lag as well. Though Fraps in my opinion is one of the best recording softwares you can buy if you're serious about video making.

I use Bandicam, Good quality, not much lag, and small file size!
