Pound for pound, the Chevy 302 is my favorite motor. Everyone loves the huge big blocks with tons of low end torque, but the short stroke in this little motor generates all of that high end power. It seems to be unappreciated by many. I gotta think a big block 396 in these smaller cars killed handling.

This brings back memories of my 1969 Z/28. Ducted hood, 4:10 gears, had Dick Guldstrand do some suspension work, and enjoyed slaloming it for years. Wish I still had it. Fun car.

That brought back memories of my first car. Dad got a 67RS on a mechanics lean after the guy left it at his Texaco station for over a year and no payment on it. Gave it to me at 15 and we spent the next year tearing it down and building it. Is was a 350 4-bolt so probably out of a truck. We went with the R140 off road cam, 202 heads, mechanical 780 Holly and an M22. Needless to say this was not the best car for a 16 year old freshman to have. Thank God I "found" a spare key to my dad's gas station...

Sounds great! The DZ302s really have a distinctive sound.

Its a symphony of sound. Love it. Looks like he needs more straight road to. Mine is equip the same way. Its my dream car that I've had since 1986.

Great vid.......sounds like she's running strong. Nicely done!

probably the best answer i've ever read to someone who doesn't understand muscle car history. Xboo is the bomb.
-
Thanks for providing that solid lifter sound effect.
-
Man that sounds sweet .. Thanks for the ride along.

never lose sight of your dreams. keep working towards them

Like I've said in a couple of other videos, that sound is music to my ears. I once owned a '69 Z28 that sounded pretty much identical to this one. Also had the 410 Posi rear, same as this one does. Muncie tranny, Hurst shifter... the whole she-bang. Man, I miss those machines. These days, I drive a Honda and every time I think about my old Camaro, I go outside and spit on my Honda. It doesn't make me feel any better but hey... it just seems so right, ya know..?

thanks for the ride.

a 4:10 gear is a bit short for the street but that 302 loves it, especially getting out of the hole with the tall 1st gear in the rock crusher 4 speed. Beautiful sounds

A guy I work with who is a little older than me bought one used for $2500 in the late 70's. Said it was a threat to his driving record. My father brought home a new 69 SS and claimed it was a Friday build as it had tons of crap the dealer had to redo. I'd much rather have a Z28 but I have one garage queen vette, can't afford another. Nice ride guy...

@dacrd thanks...I just strapped the cam to the seat and took her out for a quick spin. Glad you enjoyed..

Man that 302 is singing a great tune. Sounds freaking fantastic. Makes me want to haul ass!

Awesome car. I was going to rebuild an 89 iroc-z, but ive been leaning toward a 69 z28. Non-the-less, your zed is a great example of an american masterpiece.

This is my dad's dream car. Same colors and everything. I've laid out my career so that I'll have enough to fulfill his dream, and I plan on pulling it home behind the duramax (my dream truck) that he gave me as my first car :)

@bg147 I agree with you 100%. The little 302 was the engine that could, but the big blocks got more attn. The lighter weight of the 302 made the camaro's handle so much better.
