The Story of Shiva - The Destroyer

Published 2021-12-31
Shiva, otherwise known as the destroyer, is one of the most important deities in the Hindu Pantheon. As one of the three supreme Gods, sitting alongside Brahma the creator and Vishnu the preserver, Shiva plays a key role throughout Hinduism. Although his title of the destroyer may suggest a villainous role, Shiva is a far more complex figure. So who really is Shiva, and what does he represent? Let’s find out together

  • I hope you enjoy this video on the fascinating Shiva. What other stories from Hindu Mythology would you be interested in hearing?
  • To understand SHIVA, I'll just put something here, if there happens that all gods and demons were fighting each other for heaven, which it does many times in Hindu mythology, and when they are fighting, and suddenly SHIVA appears, both gods and demons will stop fighting and bow infront of SHIVA, because they knew SHIVA is all righteous, he doesn't discriminate, he is just!! Many occasions in history of text, SHIVA punished many gods to give justice to demons!! That's why SHIVA is called "Mahadev" means The God Of Gods!! Jai Mahakal!!
  • He is not only master of ghost ,dangerous creature, thief etc . Its just that he is so kind and aware of the life and reality that everyone is equal for him wether it is gods or demons, reptiles or ghosts, humans or micro organisms, he accept everyone ,even those who are not accepted by others.

Very well said just one thing tht is a bit wrong is tht it was not Shiva who took the form of a turtle it was vishnu , but it's true tht shiva was the one who consumed the poison....

Only thing different about Shiva and most of God's out of religion & mythology around the world is that he is the the Supreme God of both God's & demons... Means both good & evil beings view him as the Supreme God

I like Shiva. I am Muslim. I like to visit shiva temple in my childhood with my teacher every day. In my younger days also in the evening I was visiting shiva temple. Its nice peaceful feeling in the temple

If you want to understand what Shiva is: he is beyond what you can term as a "God", he is the reason why Gods even came into existence. He is nothing, he is the darkness within space, the emptiness between matter, he holds the universe together. His third eye is not a weapon of destruction, but the doorway to the ultimate truth, the key who the highest realm of consciousness. Shiva is nothing and Shiva is everything. Lord Brahma created the universe, Lord Vishnu (Krishna & Rama are his avatars) preserve it, but Shiva's manifestation and tandav is the reason why this creation could even come into existence, he is not the Supreme God, he is the reason why the Supreme God even exists. He is the glue that holds time, space, matter and souls together. To understand him better, every living being is a part of a giant tree of consciousness and Shiva's locks are the roots of this tree. His avatar Adiyogi was the first yogi, who invented Yogi, the physical series towards nirvana, Kaal Bhairav, a fierce God of Destruction, Death & Time, Rudra, a warrior avatar that represents strength, and so on...Hope I could plant a small seed in your head about the concept of Shiva.

First of all, by calling Shiva a destroyer, he does not become a Vellanious God.For Shiva, all people are equal, whether he is a normal person or a devil, Shiva does not discriminate between anyone.Death is just like Shiva, it does not discriminate between anyone and one day it comes to everyone. In Hindu religion it is said that death is The Nature's Law Death is the last and final truth of the world which nature has created.Nature gives us both life and death, so should we consider nature as evil?Similarly Shiva is good for good and bad for bad.And anyway, Shiva is incomplete without nature because nature(She) is Shiva's wife.

It's incredible that consistently across almost all cultures, the snake has been a symbol of knowledge and destruction.
  • There is no complexity in the nature of Shiv. His benevolence, kindness, mercy and generosity knows no boundaries.
  • @kumkumsingh4480
When he drank the poison and it started going in, Parvati came and kept her hand on his throat to stop the poison from going inside that's how his throat turned blue because the poison is there. Shiva accepted all those things which no one else did, the poison, the snake, the moon, the heavy Ganges flow, ghosts, bull, mirgchaala, ashes etc.
  • SO, I was peacefully meditating with singing bowl frequencies & with eyes closed I asked a question to my guides just out of the blue "Who am I really?" The image of Shiva appeared clearly in my mind in bright vivid color for a split second. I don't know much as I was born into a cult-like, abusive christian family. Never had the chance to learn much about god Shiva but I have always wanted to & am eager to learn. I am also a female in this lifetime, so I am surprised Shakti didn't appear.

The god Shiva is one of the most important figures in the Hindu belief. His name literally means “the auspicious one”, but his most common epithet is “the destroyer”.  He takes on many forms in Hindu scripture and is said to have 1008 names. One of the most common names for him is “Mahadeva”, meaning “great god”. Most commonly, he is seen as one third of the trimurti, the three holiest gods. He is one of the most complex and mysterious gods in the Hindu tradition because of his paradoxical nature.
  • @skynight5140
He is rightly called the destroyer as he destroys illusion or “Maya”. As we all are going through endless cycle.
  • @mattspiaggi
I practice meditation for 8 years almost. recently went to a silence and meditation retreat. At the 3rd day of meditating shiva appeared to me with figures like triangles and colors. I’m not a Devote of shiva itself. Idid not know much about him, I always felt identifícated with Ganesha I always sing to her and pray for her. But this figure appeared with a lots of triangles and circles around it. It had a few arms and it was moving and It blew my mind. It was Shiva. I think this should be common but I was really amazed and surprised by this . I came here to know more and more about Shiva as now I feel he visited me for something ❤

Loved the video about Shiva! I don't mind more videos about Shiva. There's something so intriguing and fascinating about Shiva! I love the duality of his personality.
