The Marvel Cinematic Universe has taken over the global box office in the past decade, but Marvel wasn’t always the cinematic gold mine it is today. In fact the very first Marvel movie that got a theatrical release was so poorly received that they waited more than a decade to make another one. That first movie was Howard the Duck.

The movie definitely raises a ton of questions… Like who is this movie for? Why are we seeing all these duck parts? Why is Beverly attracted to a duck? Why does Howard get a job in an adult spa? Why are there so many duck puns? What was George Lucas thinking? And once again, who is this movie for?!

To answer all these questions and more, step inside the pitch meeting that led to Howard the Duck! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

“Why are you watching the pitch meeting for a movie you’ve never seen?” “Because!” “That works!”
  • @cyberpokey
This seems far more disturbing than I recall.

Someone in my family thought this would be a great kid movie to see during family gathering. We ended up with lots of awkward silence moments.

"Why should we make this movie? Whose idea was this? Who wants this?" "George Lucas." "Let's make this movie."
  • "So you have a movie script for me?" "No I dont" And that's how half of modern movies are made
  • @bignoknow
This was one of my favorite movies as a kid.... I did not know what I was watching.

Fun fact: Disney now owns both Donald and Howard. Imagine that crossover.

"I can't help but notice you didn't use the word 'bad.'"
  • More people will watch this pitch meeting than will see Howard the Duck.

"Oh, so the movie's almost over?" "No, no, not even close." "Well that's a shame." I will be stealing variations on this interaction.

I saw this movie in the theater. That was 33 years ago. I still have scars on my soul.

"Why doesn't Beverly drive?" "How would I know?" "I thought you might" "Well I don't, so anyway..." This exchange completely got me.

"So then suddenly a space laser shoots into Howard's apartment and he gets abDUCKted..."

Who’s this movie for?... Greatest question concerning Howard the Duck ever.
  • @LasseLundster
Lmao I swear the dead pan "Oh is the movie over?" "nononono"... "Oh that's too bad" killed me, one of the best sidenote lines ever

I loved Howard the Duck as a little kid, watching it again as and adult I realized it was quite disturbing.
