Being a Golden Retriever Owner I can tell that it's not as easy as it seems to raise a Goldie. • For those thinking about which breed to pick, from personal experience, golden retreivers are absolutely the best! But be prepared for a few things: 1) they'll steal your heart and you'll be okay with that, it's their superpower, 2) they are the quintessential extrovert, they need and love people, so if they stop listening to you around new people, that's normal, lol 3) going potty won't be done under a minute, they are not in a hurry and need to smell EVERYTHING first, 4) expect the unexpected, they have bright, full personalities, a contagious joy and are very curious creatures, they will surprise you with how they act 5) they absolutely love and go stupid crazy over the tennis ball but can't catch it to save their lives, and last... 6) you'll shatter when they pass away, it was easy to overlook just how much joy she brought to me every day (because I got to enjoy it every day!), nothing will fill that space again, you'll just have to learn to live with one more hole in your heart. Don't let this deter you though, looking back, it was SO worth it. RIP Whisper 2000-2014, I'll see you again over rainbow bridge.
  • I have had great parents, friends, and relationships, but the three most wonderful loves of my life have been my goldens. They have given me a special happiness that can't be explained.

As soon as I have a better living space, I’ll definitely get one. I’m melting at this 🥺

I love my Golden to pieces. It was tiring training him when younger but perseverance and consistency pay of into adulthood. Great information here.
  • "Golden retrievers are not bred to be guard dogs, and considering the size of their hearts and their irrepressible joy in life, they are less likely to bite than to bark, less likely to bark than to lick a hand in greeting. In spite of their size, they think they are lap dogs, and in spite of being dogs, they think they are also human, and nearly every human they meet is judged to have the potential to be a boon companion who might, at many moment, cry, "Let's go!" and lead them on a great adventure." ~ Dean Koontz

All dogs need a loving owner. Adopting a dog from your local animal shelter is also a choice rather than promoting dog breeding. You’d be saving an animal’s life, getting a best friend, and you’d be doing good for the animals already here needing a home. Please think about adopting your pet. Thanks for your time reading this. 💙💙💙

All good advice. My 6 month old golden demands a huge amount of attention and exercise when she’s awake! They love car rides ! A super loving and super fun breed. But high maintenance.

my golden's low energy and low maintenance but he's a rare one LOL he's super chill and is super loyal to me. love him to bits.

Do not piss away a dime with a so called reputable breeder, rescue a dog from a shelter, etc. These animals show such appreciation and love once rescued.

I have 2 Golden Retrievers (2 and 3 y/o)... They do not need supplements if they eat healthy (dog food) and according to their vet.. they do not need a bath every week, on the contrary I've been told not to bath them more often than once a month (unless the play on mud)

My heart cannot take the 🌈🌈 at the moment. The loss of my best friend still lingers after 7 years. I’m sure that I will find another Goldie at the right moment. Until then, I’ll just watch from the sidelines.

I have my 4th Golden now and he is 10 years old. At age 2, he became a Therapy Dog. That was the best thing for him! He loved the attention and doing a job. Came home very tired. He is amazing and I love him sooo much! Yes, make sure you get a good breeder. I learned that from other dogs I have had.

We've had two golden's and I can't imagine a better creature to have ever inhabited this planet! Smart, funny, loving, affectionate, did I mention funny? My biggest complaint about them is that it's true, they shed like monsters, secondly they depart this world all too soon leaving you devastated; like losing a close member of your family which in fact, they are. Otherwise, you can't do better than having a golden retriever in your life.......really!

Puppies bite when they are taken away from their mothers too soon and are not shown corrective behavior by her. Bad Breeders tend to take away puppies too soon. If you’re being offered a pup who has been with its mother and pack less then 8 weeks I recommend you go with someone else.
  • Had golden retrievers for over 30 years. Love them to bits. Currently have 5. If I lose my balance they allow me to grab them. They try to be lap dogs but they are very cuddly. One of them often barks at me because he wants to play. But I am a softie and he knows it.
