I got my first sanctum guardian kill today. It took over 20 million in death costs and resources. My DPS wasn't good enough to follow this guide exactly. I couldn't ignore the minions like you suggested. They'd build up and once they got to a critical mass of 8-10 the damage would be an issue. I also had to start running on the auto attack before the smoke so I could reach the upper left corner. I couldn't place the smoke where you placed it cause there wasn't enough room. I probably had 9-10 smokes but I wasn't counting.

Thanks for the guide, it's really useful. I've started learning the mechanics by doing story mode and in my first attempt my Seiryu kill took 18 minutes lol. I Think I did like a 6 cycle ='/.. Aside from learning that I'm a weakass bitch, I learnt a lot about the mechanics, so hopefully next time round will be faster.
