On "My Car Story" we're in the Suburbs of Phoenix AZ on 10-10-20.

We're looking at a 1964 Plymouth Savoy 2 Door in White Paint. The car comes with the factory 426 CI V8 “Street Wedge” engine which produces 365 HP.

The car's Owner is Ed Winkler. Ed’s had this car since 2017. He shares this car was owned by a Mom who asked her son what kind of car she should get? Well the young son saw the motor in this one and suggested this was a fine choice for mom. Sadly the mom passed and the family stored the car for 35+ years. This car is all original, and the car has just over 53,000 original miles.

ENJOY!

What a beautiful survivor! The story about the son picking the car out and racing it is hilarious.
  • I remember as a kid in the early 70's seeing these beautiful Mopars on the Beverly Hillbillies
  • The 426 Street Wedge was available in late 64 and all of 65 . The motor was rated at 365 HP . A lot of highway patrols used the 426 . it was a dog up to 50 or 60 mph where a good 383 could stay with it . Because of the additional cubic inches it had a great top end .The motors performance was hindered by the low riser intake which allowed the air cleaner to clear the hood . i owned a 1965 Coronet 500 4 speed with this engine . Also of note Plymouth never had a 348 c. u. motor , it would of had to be a 361 or 383

Now that's a "nice and nasty" Savoy!! Such an unassuming car that probably surprised the heck out of a ton of people at the stop lights! This survivor is a beautiful time capsule. GREAT VIDEO LOU.

Man that's stunning, I'd love to have a ride in that one.

Savoy . . . the ultimate sleeper car.
  • @scdevon
The painted steel wheels and Dog Dish hubcaps are great. Real bad-ass, old school look that never goes out of style.
  • Mr. Winkler's Savoy probably is the fastest car on his block. Normally I'm impressed by the motor and this car has a fine one too, but all those registration stickers is just amazing! Thanks, Lou!

Another great survivor and a Chrysler Corp. Car my favorite combination. I really dig the " sleeper" look with the dog dish caps and best of all that 426 v8.

Back when American companies knew how to make cars !

Incredible, stealth beast And the routinely shared brochures and varied spec paperwork really ADD to the QUALITY of Lou’s videos ....what and how options were listed and what life was like via period marketing materials by manufacturer and model types Big Thanks ED!!! LOU is swiftly moving through “turn 3” and prepping for the final straightaway and 100,000 subscribers ...

Great to see that the 64 is still popular. My father had one exactly like it. He bought new in 64. Had red interior , with 3-spd on the column. First car I learned to drive. Brings back a lot of childhood memories.

Taking me back again Lou.. My pops had a dark blue '64 Belvedere... I remember being around 6 years old or so, at the time..and sitting on pops lap going down the road. He loved that car. Nice one here!

This car is beautiful. My first car was a ‘64 Belvedere, 318, 4 Dr, white w red interior. The dash and instrumentation was identical to this specimen. I remember having the identical factory shop manual and sales brochure. This gives me vivid 55- year flashbacks. Of all the cars I've owned (including a Superbird) my heart aches to drive that Belvedere again.

During my senior year in high school, my father bought a brand new 1964 Plymouth Sport Fury 318 in silver grey with red interior. The car was magnificent, elegant, quite fast, and well built. My dad let me drive it to school daily. Wonderful memories. Wonderful dad.

That is a remarkable piece of machinery to have survived into the 21st Century, as Plymouths back then were not built to last.

Very nice car. The 426 street wedge was a good muscle car that didn't get more recognition because it wasn't exclusively available in a specific performance model as was the case with the GTO. I have a '64 Polara 500 that was originally a 426 street wedge/4 speed, but had already been given a Max Wedge transplant before I got it when I was 18 in the mid seventies. Ever since then it's been a legal NHRA stock eliminator car with a 426 Max Wedge (and its 4 speed since 1994 after running it for 20 years with a torqueflite). After being away for 48 years, I now also have the aluminum front end 13.5:1 compression 426 Max Wedge '63 Plymouth Savoy that my dad bought new in 1963. It is immaculate, thanks to care from my dad and its subsequent owners/collectors before I bought it back over 6 years ago. All but 7 years of my life has been spent with these cars. I'll never get tired of them.
