I first saw the term "undershot shading" in a live chat, and I'm sad to say that I don't remember who said it... but I like it! You know who you are, thank you very much for the poetic and descriptive term :-)

A lot of painters I notice do underpainting at the time they do the zenithal. So it’s first instead of after the fact to get really good results. I don’t have an air brush for stuff like this, though it can be done with a rattle can too. Fantastic video as always. So informative.

Back in the day Privateer Press helped put this sort of thing on the map. Almost no other painting guides actually recommended painting on the shadows. PP worked from mid-tones out, while everyone else just recommended to build up consecutive highlights. Seeing that in one of their books way back really opened up my painting.

So fun to see Goob and Dana together! Also at 2:49 the look on Dana’s face when you start unpacking all your stuff on her clean desk is PRICELESS. I laughed so hard I had to rewind and watch it a couple of times.

I don't know if it's cool name dropping other channels here, but I hope it's okay to say GRG Miniatures has been putting out great videos exploring this style of coloured under painting for a long while. Totally changed how I think about base coats, shadows and highlights.
