It's been a colder than average fall so far here in Minnesota. The water temps are dropping fast and topwater is done for the year. Or is it? Thanks to a hot water discharge heated stretch of river I found some giant smallmouth still willing to smash the spook!

Matt is such a nice guy. Even though he's whispering not to scare the fish away, he loudly returns the "Good morning" haha

You're my hero, bro. It snowed here in Michigan and I just wanna kayak and catch smallmouth. I truly live vicariously through you right now!

I just sent this to my snowboarding/fishing group text. I described it as a bedtime story from the Bob Ross of Smallies. We've had a terrible time out here in the East with flooded waterways (again and again) since May, and the fishing has been sketchy, but is picking up. I found a nice school of small Smallies prior to our sixth flood of the year a few days ago in the Upper Potomac that were loving the Zara Puppy (bone color). I lost count on 11-15" Smallies. Every single one of them, there was an instinct strike and a miss... I'd pause... twitch twitch... walk for a second... boom! It's always inspiring to see somebody doing great stuff with bass from a kayak. We will be trying to hit the Stripers hard in the coastal rivers exactly the same way that you hit these tanks. It's an annual fall tradition for us to try nothing but Spooks, Jrs or Puppies for at least a day, depending on what the fish see as food (rather than simply hit via instinct). The next couple of weeks tend to be our best chance at finding the big boys and girls up top. Thanks for the great vid, man! You have inspired and excited a small group of kayak fishers.
  • Thanks for posting!!! AGAIN, you are the MAN when it comes to catching the Smallies!!!
  • Man it never gets old watching you hammer some big smallies, great job brother!
  • Great top water small mouth fishing ! Great to get another day in before it gets too cold. Beautiful fish 🐟 as usual. I’m grateful for your channel, it’s my favorite! ❤

There is NOTHING better than great topwater action, no matter what the waters or species. Thanks for sharing your fall day with us.
