On this week’s episode on The Overlap, brought to you by Sky Bet, we are joined by Liverpool and England star Trent Alexander-Arnold.

We join Trent as he returns from injury in the closing stages of the 23/24 season that has already seen Liverpool win the League Cup and in contention to win the Premier League and Europa League in Jurgen Klopp’s final season.

The boyhood Liverpool star reveals what the dressing room was like when Klopp announced his departure, the influence the German boss has had on his career and how much a title would mean to him, the club and city.

At just 25 years-old Trent has established himself as one of the world’s best players and has won every major trophy he’s competed in and following a disappointing 22/23 season he tells how his mindset changed over the summer.

Trent also takes on Gary at darts whilst answering quick-fire questions before finally talking about his After Academy, a charity he set up to help academy footballers who didn’t make it to the professional game.

Where does Trent rank amongst Premier League right-backs?
  • @da_great_mogul
Credit to Gary Neville in allowing Trent to speak freely without fear of interruption or unexpected changes in topic.
  • @GbreezY95
Any interview/conversation in which a player feels comfortable enough to not give media trained responses, makes me happy! Props Gary.
  • @Moinul987
The best part about these interviews is the fact that Gary doesn't need to create a headline, it's just a free flowing chat, and that's what makes these interviews great

Trent is very well spoken, very honest and very humble. I can see why Klopp made him Vice Captain.

Gary's skill is that his self-deprecation allows his guest to let their guard down and speak honestly with vulnerability. This is what makes his podcasts and interviews so insightful and refreshing.

These interviews are exactly what we, as fans, want. Insight into our favorite players, free conversations, no pressure, relaxed atmosphere. Huge credit to Gary!
  • Gary is seriously the best at this. That was wholesome content for sure. Trent seems like a top lad! Enjoyed that to the fullest, they had good laughs as well, always good to see.

This was absolutely fantastic. You can tell Trent would sit and chat to Gary for hours about football and he isn't afraid to show that he is interested in knowing more about that United team during the 2000s when he was growing up. I really hope England use this guy as he's approaching his prime years, a special talent.
  • THIS is how you interview a player. Gary made Trent feel totally relaxed and didn't pry or look for Piers Morgan-esque clickbait. Great job.
  • Gary Neville constantly downplays how good a player he actually was. That says a lot about his character. He’s got his flaws like the rest of us but intuitively you always get the feeling that he’s a genuinely good guy.

How genuine is Trent…. Seems like a really decent, considerate, kind fella… really warmed to him…
  • Gary is easily the best sports interviewer about, 44 minute episode felt like it was 20 minutes and it leaves you wanting more! Top episode!
  • @Atm2109
Props to Gary for this top tier content, he is definitely changing the game with these insights.
  • @kevinconway2965
Take note Rio, this interview wasn't chopped up into 34 different parts and released over a 3 month period.
  • Gary makes it so it’s not an interview, it’s just blokes having a good natter, no interruptions just let’s them talk. Top stuff.
  • @avfc1985
Brilliant last section with Trent picking Gary's brain. You can tell he loves football and is a thinker. Seems like a great lad.
  • Trent comes across a real good lad, just a humble eager kid wanting to learn and be his best. Proper sportsman
  • @JoeGambler
40:15 “We won 6 titles together” Trent’s reaction 😂 Gary plays himself down but Trent knows thats impressive
