In this episode, I show you how I set up my online photography store and how I sell my photography prints on Squarespace. This is an updated version of an episode I did a few years back as I've made some tweaks along the way.

  • Your channel is SO helpful. It's hard to find photographers talking about how to sell their work instead of how to get hired to shoot someone else's thing. I really appreciate the comprehensiveness and specificity of your content. Thank you!!

Good advice. I've recently retired so don't need to make a ton of money on selling prints. For me, it's more about having a reason to take photographs. It becomes pointless if no-one ever sees them and I do get a buzz when I have sold in the past. The one thing you didn't mention is that you have to be brutally honest about how good your pics are before you try to sell. There's so much out there from people who got their first camera this year.

Excellent info, Justin. And I really appreciate the delivery of your teaching. Well done. Liked & subscribed.

Great information and inspiration to pick up a camera again! The saturation is what drove me out of photography. my weakness was the learning curve of post production. All anyone needs now is 2000$ and post production computer skills. This has diminished and devalued all of our photography skills. We need to be really good at networking and marketing ourselves to sell our skill set and art as opposed to the mass Lr filters. For the new photographers; don't sell your files! sell prints!

Nice and concise! I’ve been dragging my feet but you just got me motivated again. Thanks Justin. Been following for a while, and really enjoy your videos, and your photography!
  • Good update, Justin. One of the issues I have found is that there are so many marketing channels available and getting your work seen to sell is the key issue. On a website, having good SEO is essential for this, and this is something that I continue to invest in. Without good SEO, you're howling in the wind. However, to compete on any sense of a level playing field, this work almost becomes a full-time job, and so many of the 'pro sites' undoubtedly have professional web designers doing this work necessary for them. All of this becomes part of the hustle. I sell a few prints, and I'm fortunate that I don't have to rely on photography to pay the bills, however, I do need a place to exhibit my work beyond the odd stuff I put on Instagram or with local cafes. For me, it's all about the love, man!

What's holding you back from selling your photography prints?
  • @dougbraz5843
Great info - many thanks. Just what the doctor ordered!
  • @hankfoto
Thank you. I have the problem of just wanting to sell my photos with out the Customs and just sell here and canada. Vietnam is a beautiful country the only problem is when I was there, was 1969 and 1970. nough said. I really want to say thank you for letting me and others know of easier ways to sell and with out the massive places to promote. I plan on re-watching your this video to get a couple of places to start promoting my work. wishing the best!

It's crazy that this video came up on my feed because I just saw the rhino photo on Instagram today! Awesome photo 🙌
  • Great video and I agree with most of what you are saying. I just browsed your website and could not find how to order any prints. I see this as a problem with many photographers. I sell lots of prints, it is my main source of income. The first step is have your website built around selling prints. The second step is learn about SEO and utilize it. The third step is sell large prints. I rarely sell anything less than 24x36 inches. Most of my sales are 30x45 inches and larger.

Hi Justin, your videos have been helpful for me as I fine tune my website. I've been trying to get along with the Printique plugin, but I'm having an issue where the product displays a terribly low resolution photo even though I've uploaded a high quality tif. I looked at your website and you don't seem to have the same issue - I was wondering if you found a workaround within Printique or if you ended up manually creating the products?
  • @_parkphoto
Dang, every time you make a video explaining or teaching something it makes so much sense and is super helpful! Thanks again Justin
  • I'm about to dip into selling my prints online and I'm in Squarespace too. As I'm also selling different products (digital downloads, courses, etc), I'm curious about one thing on your website and I couldn't find it anywhere else: do you have 1 shop with different categories? Or do you have separate shops for all your item types? Thanks, love your content!!
  • @MYoutube8
The big question though: how many do you sell a month? This gives us more perspective if it's all worth it...
  • @eilishwarnes
Great advice! Does anyone have any good UK drop shipping companies? I'm on squarespace too
