A high IQ apparently strongly predicts good grades, a good career, and even health and mortality. For my father, intelligence was all that mattered. Ever since my brother Charles was diagnosed as a gifted child, all he talked about was IQ and intelligence research.#learn #IQ

This story is amazing, because it has a lot of subtle elements that match my personal experience. The father (who represents the scientific consensus on IQ, because his mathematical interpretation of IQ graphs is perfectly explained) is presented as authoritarian and abusive, rather than calm, rational, and informed. It is, and was, impossible for he non-genius son to accept IQ information without taking it personally, and becoming resentful. The female teachers who administer the IQ tests are portrayed as callous and out-of-touch, even though they CORRECTLY explain the scientific consensus on IQ by stating that you can't raise your IQ score more than about ten points. Like before, it was impossible for the non-genius son to hear this IQ information without taking it personally, and becoming resentful. The non-genius (older) son is presented as the hero of the story for BOTH refusing to open the envelope AND learning to forgive his abusive father. However, whenever an abusive father exists, the most logical conclusion is that he abused all of his children in some way. So if the non-genius (older) child is a victim of his father's abuse then so is his younger, genius brother! There is no heroism in rejecting valid scientific conclusions about IQ, especially when you lose empathy for your younger brother. The older brother's resentment prevents him from saying things like, "My little brother was so young and vulnerable when my father started abusing him. It was my job, as an older brother, to protect him - but I was too focused on my own pain to even try." Or, "I cannot undo my past failures with my younger brother, but I can make an effort to understand his side of the story WITHOUT judging him, so he can hopefully stop being depressed and find love." Still, if the story was written to highlight how normal-intellect people come to resent intellectually smarter people, then it did a really good job.

Moral: IQ doesn't matter. Now here's 5 IQ questions. Good luck!
  • @FastGuppy
5 seconds to answer a question? I can barely do that when someone asks me my favorite color.
  • @xferrum
tells a story about how you shouldn't worry about your IQ, then at the end tells you to do a short "IQ test" and put it in the comments lmao im done
  • @windwind3170
Him: IQ doesn't matter and i'm not jealous of my brother Also Him: I dropped out of college and my brother's a depressed virgin.
  • I don't believe IQ is a good measure of intelligence, but if you truly believed that your IQ score doesn't matter, then you wouldn't be afraid to open the letter.
  • The official answers to the tests at the end: 1- Batman 2- Batman 3- Batman 4- Batman 5- Batman The answer is always Batman
  • After his father finished lecturing him on the importance of IQ, he should have replied, "I don't get it . . ."
  • @ranchu8385
im that 0.1% on the left side of the chart
  • @fuzzylon
I took an intelligence test when I was about 55 and I did open the envelope. I found that I was in the top 2% and qualified for Mensa, but the real benefit for me was that it helped me understand myself better and feel more comfortable about being me.

He should have questioned about his father's IQ
  • Hi. I really liked the story along with the art. Since you have asked the viewer to post his/her answers to the 5 IQ questions given at the end of the video, my answers are: 1. 2cm 2. Yes 3. 4 trips to the store 4. Cupboard 5. 256 since each number from 1 to 6 is in its 'to the power 4' form. I'm a psychology student so I enjoyed it even more. Thanks for sharing this video! 😊

"Knowledge is wealth, but our life is ran by our decisions." -said someone
  • lmao was expecting some message at the end, but this was all to stroke the dude's ego. "My brother never found love and is now depressed, while I have a great family" lol ok buddy
  • @petitnicollas
"I refused to open the envelope" Then everyone clapped
  • *All of my best friends are at a class at grade 9 called “Creme section”... Meaning they are the most efficient and smartest in the high school campus. The gap between my grades and theirs are unbelievable, whenever I hang out with them, I feel like I don’t belong with them anymore. I feel out of place, this led to my depressing thoughts of never being good enough or acceptable anymore, it also led me into losing self confidence... So I isolated myself from them... I would always see my best friends hang out with the smart ones. I became really suicidal because of this... But because of this video, I didn’t drown myself. Thank you so much!* ❤️

Pov: the dad's IQ is lower than the one of that boy's (not the brother's)
