These scammers on Discord evolved. From steam scammers to Discord scammers. But does this change come with any new tricks or is it the same scam in a different coat of paint?

Well, there are some changes. And unfortunately that's enough where people still fall for this Discord scam. And these scammers will eventually be more prevalent than steam scammers because they can contact everyone, not just people with a linked Steam account. So make sure to turn DMs off from Discord servers and keep your eyes peeled for this Discord scam.

If you know about Steam Support scams (e.g. "I accidentally reported you"), then this is pretty much the same thing minus Steam
  • @Flufferpup
The whole thing falls apart when you consider that if any corporate business thinks you're breaking TOS, they'll just suspend you with a "sorry not sorry" email. They won't ever make you plead your case unless you open up a support ticket after the fact.

The steam scam I sadly fell for because I was scared of losing my steam account. Which I did lose it because they stole it from me. I had hundreds of dollars worth of games, had to make a new steam account. Though I did learn my lesson, and I'm glad your shining more light onto these situations. Hope the scamming gets taken care of somehow!
  • My best friend got one of those "I reported your Steam accout" messages once and he decided to troll and waste their time. He was instructed to message a different person and so he took his second account to make it look like the account he was supposed to contact and messaged "oh yeah everything is resolved" from there and sent a screenshot of that conversation to the scammer lol

fun fact: discord support was scammed more times than it did scam others

I remember the time I got a scam report on my steam account. I took the liberty to say that I do not own the account. After asking for things for a while, the conversation started derailing towards wanting to speak to the real owner of the account. They got very rude towards me since I was allegedly not the owner of the account, and the lines they used was funny. "I don't care about you man, Im here for the owner" and "Are you a teacher?" I forwarded them to my alt and continued to just stall with silly questions.

I got one of these messages while I was in Hawaii, I screwed around with the scammer for a solid hour and a half while i was flying between Hilo and Honolulu. Took everything to not laugh my ass off on that plane
  • @Esdapox
I fell for it. I realised when i saw your video in my feed. I feel so stupid for falling for it so yeah... Please shed more light on this scam...

NTTS is very close to revealing his full appearance by describing it very well 😂
  • @Keventor
The moment it went to "I acededantly reported your account" I instantly had flashbacks to the steam account scam.

The most amusing part to me is that the idea of "raporting" someone is almost the complete opposite of what they intended to say

working for discord AND valve at the same time must be super hectic. imagine getting thousands of user reports from discord and millions of "please help, my TF2 chat doesnt work but i spent enough money" reports every day
  • @hooting-ton5215
I want to say Discord would go: "Wtf, there's no record of any purchases made with this account." and not continue with the ban... but knowing Discord I can't say that with 100% confidence.

Just because you got scammed by these does not mean you're stupid. People like this like to manipulate people's kindness. It's never your fault for getting scammed

I was about to fall to that scam. Luckly I knew a specific youtuber who covers most of the common scam types. Totally worth it, thanks for the support! Keep doing your job that's helping tons of people!

I dealt with this today on my discord. In my defense, I was tired after a job interview and a terrible night for not recognizing this shit right away. But when he asked to change my account's eMail, I got suspicious and looked him up. I blocked and reported right away after finding a reddit entry about this whole scheme. Warned my pals about it as well, just in case they were friends with that same account that approached me. I don't really use steam, so this was the first time for me that I saw this scheme.

I actually had one of these scams a couple days ago while I wasn't sober. Luckily I had enough critical thinking skills to realize why am I messaging steam customer support on discord and then blocked the guy.
  • @raidensakura
The first mistake of the scam is saying you'll get IP banned when Discord don't even have IP ban. F to the people who fell for this.
  • @Bhunt9394
I KNEW IT Someone I hadn’t spoken to in five years did this exact thing. It instantly felt wrong.
  • @cooladison3920
oh my god thank you lol, i almost fell for it because i used to be a mod for a game server where people would often get scammed by losers and so i really thought they accidentally reported me for scamming instead of someone else. thank you!!
