  • Probably most of foreign people misunderstand that Shin-Godzilla is a monster movie. As this video shows, Japanese people felt their weakness against natural power. And the feeling awakens again when they watch Shin-Godzilla. Shin-Godzilla is not only a kaijyu movie or a SF, but also a movie that features Japanese society, politics and attitudes to the nature. That is why some foreign people disappointed when they watch this. We, Japanese people, and people in other countries have a different background to watch.

Remember, people, Godzilla has ALWAYS reflected the times and concerns Japan has faced over the decades. Some of the most praised Godzilla films have touched on subjects Japan has dealt with around the time those films where made.

Yes, while this video is hard to watch as it captures the horror and loss people really had to go through, it is important for westerners and the rest of the world to watch shin godzilla knowing exactly what the real world tragedy behind the film's conception was. Some may find it distasteful to make entertainment out of real world events but from the positive reception of the film in Japan, it seems the majority of Japanese film goers thought shin gojira solidified, channeled, and commemorated the feelings and experiences of those who lived through 3.11 in a tasteful and poignant manner.

This is great, thank you more people need to see the videos like this. I did a godzilla 3-11 video as well and I think they are really good for the fanbase

I try to explain this to EVERYONE! I even go over it in my video review of the film

I think what they mean with the video is this, the following from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shin_Godzilla "Inspiration for the film was drawn from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster and the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami." The events leading up to Godzilla's emergence. Because of the nuclear disaster that followed, theoretically it made Godzilla.
  • This tugged at my heart. When I heard the man running with the phone, I heard him say one of the few Japanese words I know, "早く". Hearing the fear in his voice just broke me.
