Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has ordered a "direct attack" on Israel in retaliation for the killing of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, the New York Times reported citing three Iranian officials. Khamenei reportedly gave the order at an emergency meeting of Iran's Supreme National Security Council after Iran announced that Haniyeh had been killed. Meanwhile, the Israeli government has refused to comment on the killing of Haniyeh. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, without mentioning the deceased Hamas leader, said, “We are ready for every scenario,” and “Israel will exact a very heavy price for any aggression against us.”
