  • For those that are unaware - this was a clever scam where the owners of the video game rating agency decided that they were going to rate video games like rating notes - they put an "authenticated" video game up at auction, and bid WAAAAAAAY more than anyone else, to create a hype and a market. They used Pawn Stars as pawns, as a form of reputation laundering. It's a classic hustle, and the sellers were hedging. I think they're curranty under Federal investigation. Good times.
  • The seller of the super Mario cart failed to mention that he was a part owner of Wata, and was the boss of the “expert” who came in to give a value of the cart.

Pawn Stars really inspired me to get into real business negotiations of pricing for rare collectibles - it's definitely an art and a sport, gotta love it and respect the process of feeling out a honing in on value agreement for both parties.

Just looking at the case fills me with complete nostalgia

Rick: "Let me call my Mario expert." (Charles Martinet walks in) Me: "It's-a me, Mario!"

Just so you all know, the guy bringing in the graded Super Mario Bros never intended to sell it. $1 million dollars is a number he pulled out of his behind, in fact he works for the grading company Wata, who a few years ago were involved in a massive graded games scandal and conspiracy. Bringing in this game to Pawn Stars was nothing but to get attention to Wata and their grading service. In reality sealed games are NOWHERE near as valuable as a lot of people will say.

I love these game episodes!!!. Now Chumlee is the video game expert good for him..
  • Awesome to see Pat the NES punk! I don't think he was seriously trying to sell it, meaning he really didn't want to part it without getting good money. More he was either invited to "sell" it or he just wanted to test waters :D

"You mind if I take a closer look at the gold one?" "As long as you promise not to break it" AVGN runs in with a hammer
  • Rick was thinking “I’ll give you 10 dollars in store credit…..best I can do”. 😂😅

Seeing Pat the NES Punk on here, absolutely made this my favorite episode of all time!

Yeah, the dust blow and grabbing a Q tip, dipping it in alcohol and cleaning it. You would be surprised how much dust and gunk gets on the game reader. Also blowing inside the game console would help at times. And when the spring would go out where you push the game down in the console, a folded piece of paper makes miracles happen.
  • Watching Rick explain gaming history to a life-time gamer....it fills you with determination.

Man that expert from Wata Games (Denver, CO) made it to Vegas pretty quickly!

I have sealed Nintendo 3DS games that go for $650 already. I can't imagine how much they will be in 20-30 years from now. But, they have such a sentimental value to me that I don't know if I will ever sell them. Maybe only if I'm at the bring of poverty.
  • I was a semi finalist in that 1990 World championship lol Yea, I'm old.
  • Used to play on the super nintendo with my mom all the time. What the item reminds me of is priceless. Miss my mom too. I like your shop, and love the staff.
  • people probably say this all the time but that was the best growing up in that decade playing those games with friends. now days just hasn't got that feel playing online.

yeah, that Sharp CRT TV/NES combo... VERY niche collectors-only item. with the right adapters a 'classic NES' like he mentioned "the grey box everybody owned as a kid..." is DEFINITELY a seller... and a player... even with the brand spankin new OLED TVs. but that CRT TV/NES combo... that's all it will ever be, attached to that TV. i've got my childhood NES, SNES decks and games and peripherals carefully stored in my house for a rainy day when i can afford to get em hooked up to my big screen TV. i'm glad that lady got a good deal and i hope the Pawn Stars can find that TV/NES a new and loving home! :D
