It's been awhile since I've put out a Driving Fail of my own. In one of these clips the driver behind me blames the Driving School vehicle for their own mistake, and I also see the aftermath of a big collision in the car park!

A sample question in a Liverpudlian Cab Driver's exam: The traffic lights ahead of you are red. Do you: A) Ignore them and just keep going? B) Just keep going and ignore them? C) Ignore them? D) Just keep going?

"How do you do that much damage, in a car park?" Right foot goes vroooooooom ๐Ÿ˜†

Some of these clips really highlight the benefit of a rear facing camera

An ambulance w/o lights and siren should not be running red lights.

We "normal" drivers are gobsmacked when someone jumps a red, or uses the left lane to go right etc. But the drivers that do this stuff don't give it a moment's conscious thought, so long as it doesn't end in a collision and they don't get caught. To them it's just a part of everyday driving, and they've forgotten about it the second it's behind them - assuming they even gave it any thought in the first place.

I have a simple rule when I get tailgated: If you don't want your safe braking distance, I'll include it in mine; if you get even closer, I'll simply increase my distance to the vehicle in front. Some of the worst offenders are wagon and van drivers because they can see over a mere car but there's reasons that people have to brake that are not always visible directly in front of them. I've always tried to give HGV drivers respect and room but as with every other form of transport, there aren't half some tits among them.
  • The only surprise with that Range Rover was that it went the right way down that one way street!

I think letting the lorry out was a bit over courteous and even if the driver knew what you were doing it's the kind of unexpected event that can cause confusion to other road users. You had a clear road in front and traffic behind you, how does it help the flow of traffic for you to stop them all unexpectedly? Edit: Just to add to this as well, I was very nearly rear ended because a driver in front of me decided to stop and let out a load of vans from a council depot. Not really the fault of the driver that stopped, but the event wouldn't have happened if he hadn't stopped

I've been watching your videos for a couple of months now and I have to say a lot of what you say, do and see has definitely made me reevaluate my own driving. You get into bad habits, I would never say I'm perfect but I'll definitely say I've improved my driving and I've become a lot more patient. ๐Ÿš˜๐Ÿ‘

As the great Bob Ross used to say "we don't make mistakes, just happy little accidents"

Ye, tailgating lorries always freak me out too, especially if you think that a lot of them tend to watch movies or clip their toe nails while driving.

Stopping on the road when you have right of way to let someone out is, in my view, bad practice. If you have right of way then use it, everyone knows rules so trying to unilaterally swap them on the fly is confusing and can be dangerous. Example, the lorry in the clip, you were stopped on the road with a left hand indicate on, as far as the lorry behind knows you could be stopping for a while. If you'd have used your right of way, you would have turned left, the lorry behind carried on and the lorry emerging would have waited their turn, exactly as everyone expected-you were the only one in that situation that knew you were giving up your right of way.

No, that articulated lorry that overtook was just being impatient

I almost always watch until the end of the videos because 1. I'm always learning and 2. I love seeing a part of the world I might not be able to visit. I really appreciate the older architecture! โค๏ธ

That first clip reminds me of something similar a few weeks back where I stopped just short of a "keep clear" box for a junction. The car behind wanted to turn down that junction and got very angry that I wouldn't move forward to block the junction. It probably didn't help that I also let two cars out before I moved.......

I like the ones that look where they're going, instead of looking where everyone else is going.๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Clip 1. If that's recent then that Audi is currently untaxed. Which to me shows the current headspace of people. Want a semi flashy car but can't afford to keep it. The same as people who drive for weeks on the smaller spare tyre.
  • @mikeroberts
You asked. So ... ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜Š I do think at times you are over courteous to vehicles waiting to exit from a side road behind a Give Way line. The junction is laid out that way for a reason. You are on the main route. There's no problem creating a space in queuing traffic to let a vehicle out BUT where you are flowing reasonably freely, slowing/stopping to let vehicles out can confuse following vehicles, and possibly put yourself in danger.
