Its actually pronounced Crow-chee...But Omg!!! I love this so much!! Jim Croce is 1 of my all time favorite song writers!!! Please do more music from this era! This is the kind of music my parents listened to while growing up, and it's definitely something u could just put on and listen to with the fam! Much love Boyz! 🫶

"...but there never seems to be enough time to do the things you want to do once you find them..." Considering that he was killed shortly after it was recorded, this is one of the most profoundly sad lines in music, to me.

In 1975 I walked down the aisle to this at my wedding. Still married 48 years, together 51 and this song is still true for us❤️❤️❤️

His wife explained. They had a slight falling out. Jim was constantly on the road. Not making much of anything. She knew how much it meant but felt alone and was worried about where things were going. He left the bedroom where they were talking. He returned in the morning saying how so sorry he was She said he looked tired & upset. He said I wrote a song for us, & he played it as her tears fell. She later opened a restaurant called Thyme in a bottle. Nobody should apologize for shedding tears to this breathtaking moment.

Croce was awesome. It's better to watch him Live though. The bad graphics just take attention away from the lyrics. After listening to your conversation afterward, I would highly recommend Harry Chapin's Cat's In The Cradle. As dads, it will really hit you hard.

If you're gonna do Jim Croce, you HAVE to do "OPERATOR" it's classic and what a storyline!❤

His name is pronounced Jim Crow-che. He died September 20, 1973 and the album Time in a Bottle with this song debuted on December 1, 1973. This was his breakout album so though he was popular he hadnt hit it big before this. Its now 50 years later and people are still discovering his greatness.

I have to say I love you in a song...he wrote after an argument with his wife and woke her up to sing it to her that same night

Matchless songwriter -- he did profound ("Time in a Bottle", "Operator", "I Got a Name") and he did fun as hell ("Bad Bad Leroy Brown", "You Don't Mess Around with Jim", "Workin' at the Car Wash Blues"). Total genius.
  • Jim Croce was simply amazing and I'm so happy his music is being heard by newer generations. May I suggest these Croce classics "Operator", "Bad Bad Leroy Brown" and of course "You Don't Mess Around with Jim" some of my favorites after "Time in a Bottle". Thank you for reacting to this timeless classic.

Jim Croce was and is a treasure. When Ren asked what songs he should do, I suggested Jim's "I got a name." You would appreciate that song, too. Thank you for this..❤

Jim Croce died on my 8th birthday, Sept. 20, 1973, in Natchitoches, LA. He had just finished playing his last show at NSU and wanted to get home. The plane clipped a pecan tree at the end of the runway killing all onboard. Just imagine what he could have accomplished if he hadn't died so young.

His son AJ was just shy of 2 years old. Jim was 30 years old. AJ is touring singing his father's songs 🎵By the time Jim ( pronounced Crow- chee) graduated from Villanova University in 1965, with a degree in psychology, his photographic memory had helped him have as many as 2500 songs at his fingertips.

Dude! I literally bumped into my wife when we met. That was back in 1980. Never met her before, but the moment I looked into her eyes, , I thought , wow, she’s the one! Here we are 44 year later and she’s still stuck with me! I’m a lucky man 2 badass daughters aside!

When I was around 12Y/O there was an old farmer and his wife that was celebrating their 55th wedding anniversay. I asked him how they stayed together so long and I will never forget his response. "Marriage starts out all lover dovey, holding hands and playing kissy face. Then there is a long stretch where you are just best friends and roommates. Then, at the end, if you don't give up, the last few years are all lovey dovey and holding hands again." My wife and I are now married 35 years, and it has been exactly as he predicted. The destination is worth the journey...
  • Jim had some great songs, Operator, Bad, Bad Leroy Brown and Don't Mess Around with Jim. All worh a listen.

I’ve never seen this video, but it doesn’t belong with this incredible song!! The moment we heard of his death is seared in my mind. We were juniors in high school and were on our way to school when the announcement came over the a.m. radio in the car. It was crushing.
  • @patsaylor8973
I use to cry whenever I heard it fifty some years ago.
  • @allewis7810
Jim actually wrote this for his son AJ Croce. AJ has had his own very successful music career. He is just now feeling comfortable doing his dad's music.
