Published 2022-06-10
Thinking about moving to North Carolina? Want to call the Tar Heel State home? Today I am going to give you 10 things you should know before you make that move or even start thinking about it.
North Carolina is a great southern state with mountains, cities, and 300 miles of amazing Atlantic coastline. It has great food, drink, and people.
In the last 20 years, NC has gained popularity. Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham, and Asheville have been leading the charge.
As I said, this video is about some things you should know before you make that move, both good and bad. At the end of the video leave a comment and let me know if anything stuck out to you that might make you change your mind about moving to the Tar-heel state.

I went to college in Charlotte. They welcome outsiders. I met a family at a bar and they invited me into their home for Thanksgiving "dinner" (it was delicious) and Nascar. Personally, I found the racing boring, but that's fine because I was too busy being flabbergasted by the hospitality. It's an amazing state that I couldn't recommend more highly. Chances are on those ridiculously hot days, someone is gonna offer you a lemonade (or better yet, sweet tea).

I am Burmese (from a different part of the world). I have known the USA from the film. When I get here, especially to North Carolina, I immediately fall in love with nature. I have some Travel vlogs about North Carolina and the town I am living in now. Hope the readers of this comment will check them out. thanks for supporting. I love your 10 facts too dear.

Not so excited about the obsession with sports or the high taxes, but the main reasons I'm considering moving there are #1 the incredible natural beauty and # friendly people. Lower cost of living is also very appealing. Helpful video. Thanks!
  • I moved to the Piedmont of North Carolina from San Francisco in 1988. It has changed dramatically over the years, but it was still the best move I’ve ever made. Love it here!

Lifelong NC Native and love this channel! Two things were understated- college basketball and food. We are LOYAL to pork barbecue here and a lot of other things are based here. (Krispy Kreme, Mt. Olive Pickles, Texas Pete Hot Sauce) and college basketball has broken up a lot of happy homes here! We’re fiercely loyal to our teams!

I lived in Charlotte for four years in the mid 80's. The population had doubled in the prior 10 yrs & I've heard it has again since. Attributable to competition with Atlanta to replace it has the import/export hub midway between Florida and NY. Caused a huge problem especially with water lines being unable to expand quick enough for the sudden growth. It's also a major drug trafficking hub between Florida & NY, with traffickers meeting there switching loads from Florida license plates to NY license plates... I loved living there & only left to come back to my home State to care for a close relative in dire medical condition. I got to go into hundreds of homes while there as a residential window cleaner, so I had a huge sampling of the people. And let me tell you they are some of the nicest folks you'll ever meet. Southern charm is very real. The last thing you wanna do is try to hurry anyone there. They take it slow & extremely graceful. They taught me how to be a better person. NC truly is God's country.

Lived in the Asheville area for nine years before my family got priced out :( but never realized how beautiful it was until we left.

I've been a North Caroilinian my entire life born& bred here! We really do have the best of both worlds from the Mountains to the beaches! I love living here& as natives we want others to have that experience as well when they do tour our state. We have all kinds of wildlife & the fishing season is awesome 👍 I bleed Tarheel Blue.💙🥰

I live in Cary. If ya know, you know....Very rare to be a native in the Raleigh-Durham area. I do love it here with the beaches and mountains in NC, you can't go wrong. Give our State a try. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
  • My husband and I moved from Fort Worth TX to smaller town of Waynesville just outside of Asheville 2 months ago and absolutely love it 😀. We are retired and live on very meager Social Security only income but are so happy to be surrounded by such beautiful scenery and warm, welcoming people ❤️. Wish we'd come here a long time ago, but better late than never.
  • I have been through North Carolina several times, only really spent any time in both Raleigh and the Outer Banks - loved both places!! The Outer Banks is a must see for ocean lovers - I found it one of the most beautiful coastel areas I've been to - second only to the Oregon coast!!

I just moved to NC 2 months ago, not gonna lie I'm a little nervous to watch this video ha ha

A couple weeks ago I was stuck in Charlotte for a day because of a canceled flight. I stayed downtown near Whole Foods, took advantage of the situation and saw what I could of the city. Now I want to go back for a planned visit along with more of the surrounding areas. Would love to see the coast as well. I'm visiting South Carolina next week. Really excited.
  • Another North Carolinian here! Beautiful it is! The weather is ideal 6 months a year. Things not mentioned that you may want to consider... first 2 are related to cars/driving. Owning a car is expensive... fees, registrations, taxes, inspections etc. Then there are the winter weather issues. When it snows even an inch... expect an epic meltdown on the highways... no one seems to be able to maneuver without wrecking. Last heads up... it's very unfriendly tax wise for single people between 18-55 years old. You'll pay a higher percentage but are not eligible to use 90% of services the tax goes to. I just think it's more family friendly rather than for singles or even couples.
  • Born and raised Carolina girl here!!! I grew up about 15 minutes from Charlotte in a nice little town called Belmont and Ive lived in the triad now close to Winston Salem since 94.. I moved away 1 time and that was to eastern Tennessee but even then I was home sick. We do have crimes and issues just like anyone else and yes there is so much that could change for the better here, but all in all NC is just freakin Awesome!!! I was raised to always show hospitality and be kind to anyone I meet as well as making sure that my company has all of their needs met and are as comfortable as possible. One of the things you definitely got spot on is out love of college ball... So many houses are divided!! Mine was no different. Mom was a Duke fan and dad Carolina.. it was interesting... I followed my dad's lead and followed it hard core! I named my 1st daughter Carolina and she came out with Carolina blue eyes and a tarheel foot birthmark on her leg... However she absolutely hates basketball..lol

Your videos are very helpful! The only problem is places are changing too fast. Some wonderful places can become a nightmare in 2 years. Things are getting bad too fast unfortunately
  • @bryan1480
Escaped from CT to NC in 1994. Worked/lived in Charlotte for 25 years. Retired to the mountains. Staying put....
  • @krazykitty7277
I grew up in Cary in the early 60's when the town was so small that almost everyone's name fit on a community birthday calendar, lol! There was one elementary school, one junior high, and one high school. Believe it or not, Morrisville was a rural farming community! My dad's company was one of the first to relocate to the RTP (from Decatur, Alabama). The state's ad slogan then was 'Variety Vacationland' for obvious reasons! Cary was a fabulous place to grow up! I don't recognize much of it now, but it appears to have aged very well!

I took my first trip to North Carolina last year in May and was very pleasantly surprised. Caveat…I was visiting my youngest son and his family in Kill Devil Hills on the Outer Banks, so I haven’t seen much of the state. But what I have seen was really nice and the weather was awesome! Not too cool, not too hot, and the humidity was very reasonable. I was so impressed that I convinced my other kids and their families to meet up there this year in early May for a family vacation. We rented a big house a block off the Atlantic Ocean beach in Nags Head. Well, we struck out with the weather this year…we spent our 5-day stay indoors with a world class Nor’easter blowing outside, houses just down the coast being washed into the ocean, etc. But the silver lining was we were very comfortable in the rental, we had good food and drinks, and we got in some real quality time together. Everyone agreed it was a good time and they’d be willing to give the place another chance.
  • @kadejewell
The humidity here is UNREAL. You won’t be ready.
