This significant incursion into Russian territory is an important strategic move to silence the "freeze the conflict" coalition of the friends of Russia in Western countries. Hopefully, the Ukrainian forces can hold it without affecting defense in other regions.
  • @potthoschy1
This is not a gamble. This a perfekt millitary surprise move. The frontline are frozen and can´t be break whitout a lot of blood from the soldiers. But the Ukraines don´t want this and make a smart move to attak the enemy there he is weak. I really hope the ukraines can breaktrough so much that the people in russia wake up in fear and realise that his goverment do to the ukrainen people.

"The peaceful people Russia"....give me a break.
  • @tvgerbil1984
The Russian Kharkiv offensive was meant to draw the Ukrainian reserve north away from reinforcing Donbass. The Russians didn't know the Ukrainians used that defensive move as a disguise.

The times editorial attitude seems to be how dare the Ukrainians not be deferential to the Russians. They realise that the Ukrainians are resisting an invasion but could they please do it in such a way that does not upset that nice Mr Putin.
