  • The drummer in this performance is Terry Williams and you're right he's an absolutely fantastic drummer. He always nailed his live performances but during this gig his dad was in the audience and it was the first time he'd seen his son perform hence why he goes all out lol
  • You simply HAVE to check out Telegraph Road from the same concert...it's a true masterpiece. Also, Brothers In Arms...official music video.
  • Prince once got asked "Whats it like to be the worlds best guitarist?" He replied "I don't know, go ask Mark Knopfler". Another great British band! 💪🏻🇬🇧
  • Best thing said about the Dire Straits... “Mark Knopfler has an extraordinary ability to make a Schecter Custom Stratocaster hoot and sing like angels on a Saturday night, exhausted from being good all week and needing a stiff drink.” ― Douglas Adams, So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish

What I love most about this performance is the total lack of ego. It's just a bunch of guys on the stage, completely in the zone and having the time of their lives. They know they're killing it; that they're all performing absolutely at their peak; but instead of strutting, yelling, or barrelling around they just have these grins plastered across their faces and a vibe with the music. Mark pulls out an outrageous solo and then backs off to let the other players have their moment at the front. Terry has his dad watching, is utterly juiced and is playing like a man possessed and the others are right along with him despite it being and unsual tempo for the song. And all the time they are waxing and waning the tempo, teasing the audience with adrenaline highs and lows right up to the sublime finish. There have been bigger concerts, more charismatic performances, and more iconic songs; but when it comes to the pure joy of what music can bring to the world I don't think anything has ever come close to this set...

Mark Knopfler is one of THE greatest guitarists of all time, and a most exceptional front man, he did the song for the movie "the Princess Bride" too, an awesome man
  • @davidhart6291
One of the greatest live performances of any song by any band, ever.
  • @marvenleftick
Live, no gimmicks, auto tune, lip syncing....just great talent!
  • @Andy-Capp
Brothers in Arms will make you tear up.
  • @adamvigil8320
Mark Knopfler is a damn fingerpicker that makes a lot of us a little envious. He's a beast.
  • @Cadinho93
I think the most impressive thing about Mark Knopfler's playing, in a LONG list of impressive things, is the fact that with all the crazy things he does on the guitar so effortlessly, it's the fact that he finger picks every damn note. Also, Alchemy is one of the greatest performances ever committed to tape.
  • The lead singer and guitarist, is probably one of the best guitarists of our age...this band is so well oiled its insane!
  • @IanDarley
You have to hear Telegraph Road from this concert! Yes, Terry Williams is a tight AF drummer.
  • @TMFC1973
Dire Straits are the "Bomb". Their song "Brothers in Arms" will bring tears to your eyes!

These guys came up playing in pubs and other small venues, until they started to catch on and play bigger spaces. This show is in a theater that holds 3,500 people. Two years later, they were playing the big stadium shows in front of 80,000. Working at that level kind of burned them out, though, which is why Dire Straits isn't still going. However, Mark Knopfler, the singer, lead guitarist, and songwriter, is still creating new music. He's 74, almost 75, and his latest album came out in April 2024. It made it to #3 on the British album charts, right behind Beyonce. He also owns a professional recording studio in London. If you like his work, there are 6 Dire Straits studio albums and a lot of live material. He's also done 10 solo albums, 9 film scores, and a ton of collaborations with other artists. So there's lots to explore.

I love watching these reactions just to see the joy on people’s faces when they hear great music/talent. Your genuine joy makes me smile and brighten the days. Keep rockin 🤘🏻

Everything from the Alchemy shows is perfection. "Tunnel Of Love", "Telegraph Road", "Romeo And Juliet", "Two Young Lovers", the entire show from beginning to end is magnificent, the DVD is out there to be had.
  • @perennial72
Dear Stacey, our David Gilmour and now mr Mark Knopfler. I'm sure you will love him, in my humble opinion two of the best guitarists EVER. You will find masterpieces in Dire Straits art. Thank you as usual❤🇮🇹
  • What makes this performance so remarkable is Terry Williams was told to just go all out on the drums and the rest of the band matched him, beat for beat seamlessly. Guitar, drums, keyboard, bass. This song hits you from all angles.
