Muscle Car of the Week Video #119: 1970 Chevrolet Camaro Z28

www.musclecaroftheweek.com/ - The Camaro was all-new for 1970, and the Z28 is loaded with the also-new LT1 350. The LT1 350 had a higher horsepower rating than the big block, and the Z28's performance tuned suspension was one of the best you could get in '70. This Forest Green Z is a low-mile car from the Brothers Collection.

  • Bought a 2-year-old 70 Z28 from the original owner with 8700 miles on it when I was a senior in high school. I bolted on a set of headers by ED along with a pair of turbo mufflers so it could breathe. I took out the 410 rear gears and replaced them with a set of Richman 456 gears. And put on a set of BF Goodrich TA radials for traction. From 3500 hundred to 7000 grand that LT-1 was in its element. One of the best stop light to stop light racers I ever owned in that era. Against all comers including big block Ford -Mopars and Chevys In fifty or more street races, the car only lost 5 or 6 times.

Still have my 70 Z28 bought in 73. Still sends me back.
  • @KELLYNOC
I purchased a new 1970 Z28 when I returned from Vietnam. Great car! Alot of fun to drive. Semper Fi

The 1970/71 Camaro is , by a far margin my favorite model year of this Camaro/design! The LT-1 motor is perfect for this application!
  • Next to the 70 ss 396 Chevelle, this is my favorite looking. The split bumper & duck tail fin makes all the difference.

At 68yrs old this is one of the few cars I would consider buying, I've always been a fan of this model!!!! 2022

I'm a Ford guy (though back in the day I did own a '67 SS 396 Camaro and a '69 SS 350 Camaro) but I always thought the '70 Z28 was the best looking car I ever saw...all these cars and decades later I still think it is.
  • @Jgeneraledger23
Love that Split-Bumper option.  Wish it was on all Camaros for the 3 1/2 year run.
  • 360 horsepower was underrating it by a fair margin for insurance reasons. One of the drag racing associations at the time rated the stock LT1 at 425 hp. I once owned an '81 Camaro which had an LT1 from '70 in it with some performance upgrades and that thing was FAST.

I like the way you modulate your voice for the intro of this video Kevin! Awesome line to begin with!!! Nice car too! Pete :")
  • @knightflyte
I much prefer the second generation Camaro than the first. This car is gorgeous - right down to the color. Nice find. If I ever had the chance, (other than a 1960 Chevy Impala bubbletop) I'd get a 1970 Z28. I love the lines, the accessories, the interior... everything about this car.
  • @cmcdonald5710
You sold it to me! Nice narration & very cool car. Liked the runner at the conclusion, so I subscribed, as he asked.
  • i have owned a gaggle of early camaros: big blocks, z-28's, SS, and lesser variants. even had a 70 SS big block. loved them all, but the 70 z-28 i owned was just a better car than the others. period.
  • @NVRAMboi
Handsome car. Bet it's a blast to drive.
  • Still have my 73 RSLTZ28 bought new in July 73.When new it did a best of 14.4 @ 99mph,3.73 diff.and shifting the m-21 @ 6000rpm.It would top out @ 135 mph.The engine has never been apart after 64000 miles, and it is still a strong runner today.
