For those of us who live and/or teach in high-poverty neighborhoods, this talk is important. Thank you! Teachers are treated like dirt in the USA and paid terribly, but our children are treated even worse by our systemic disregard for their quality of life, which leads to direct trauma and secondary trauma for their teachers. The leading killer of children today is gun violence, not cancer. That is literally criminal and deliberate because it's such an easy fix.

Well said I am a teacher an I know what this burnout feels like I worked with kids with autism . I will tell you that program directors and administrators don't understand that what you putting out daily dealing with hurting parents and children takes a big part of your well being I hope more people understand what this is and support teachers .

We hosted an equity meeting early last year addressing this very topic. Our focus was on Teachers Mental Health, looking for ways to support teachers in the classroom who handle first-hand trauma for their students. Providing supportive services for our teachers is imperative to prevent teacher burnout and or depression. Great work Dr. Ollison!

Thank you for your TedTalk. This topic is an important one as educators continued to teach and support students during the pandemic through distance learning. Now more than ever do we need to acknowledge compassion fatigue in educators and provide them with the necessary training and support for their collective well-being.

This is such an important topic, thank you for raising awareness and providing concrete solutions. If we want kids to succeed, we hae to take better care of our teachers! Social and emotional learning strategies can be powerful for educators and students, the strong focus on relationships is an important starting point for caring for eachother and ourselves.

Thank you for sharing about this very important topic! In 2:35 you talk about how children living in high poverty experience PTSD at a rate 3x higher than Iraqi war veterans. I'd love to read more about that - are you able to share your source?
